Theatrical Review: 21 JUMP STREET

I don’t know about you guys, but all these countless remakes, re-imaginings, and rehashes have gotten on my last nerve. You’d think that in a world where extremely creative, non-derivitive films like INCEPTION and HUGO (although based on a book) are released, we would get less films based off past movies and TV shows. That’s why when a 21 JUMP STREET film was announced, everyone was so apprehensive. I mean, the original show, which starred a young Johnny Depp, isn’t even looked at with all that much reverence these days. Until the people behind this version were announced, there was little reason to get excited.

The film takes the basic concept of the show, young cops going undercover in a high school to bust drug dealers, and flips it completely on its head. Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) were never really friends in high school. Jenko, being the most popular guy in the school, could never have been friends with Schmidt – he was just too nerdy. That is, until they meet again years later in Police Academy. They realize that if they join forces they could help each other make it through the academy. This leads to them becoming best friends who are terrible at their job. Ultimately, their naïveté and youthful looks lead them to the precinct on 21 Jump Street, where they are sent back to High School to infiltrate a drug ring.

Brie Larson joins 21 JUMP STREET

21 JUMP STREET is the next in a line of remakes and adaptations, following MIAMI VICE, STARSKY AND HUTCH, and A-TEAM by being the next classic TV series to get the big screen treatment. With the cast being led by Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, the film is lining up to a fun comedic action movie and is being likened to the BAD BOYS franchise.

Now the film has seemingly found its female lead. Brie Larson, who recently showed up in SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD as the infamous Envy Adams, lead singer of The Clash At Demonhead, has been chosen to take up the lead. She will be filling the shoes of the character Molly. The film is being directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who recently directed CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS. Continue reading “Brie Larson joins 21 JUMP STREET”

21 JUMP STREET movie to begin shooting in April

The 21 JUMP STREET film reboot has been a roundabout affair for a really long time, and it wasn’t until Jonah Hill got involved that the ball actually started rolling. We then knew that it was really on the fast track whenever Channing Tatum was cast as one of the leads.

We now have learned that the film is all set to film, and will begin shooting this April in New Orleans. Continue reading “21 JUMP STREET movie to begin shooting in April”

Channing Tatum in negotiations for 21 JUMP STREET lead

Channing Tatum

Okay, I’ve admitted it many times before – I am not a fan of Channing Tatum. That being said, there are certain roles that do fit him really well, they just aren’t the route he usually takes. Now he is in negotiations to take up a lead role in the 21 JUMP STREET film adaptation, which sounds like a really good choice for him.

Currently, we are unsure of the role what Tatum would be playing, but we are led to believe that he would be taking up the role of Schmidt. Schmidt is one of the undercover guys who goes to the high school due to how young he looks. Continue reading “Channing Tatum in negotiations for 21 JUMP STREET lead”
