MACGRUBER is, surprisingly enough, an anxiously awaited film from the writers of “SNL.” Never would I have thought that the completely unfunny skit could be turned into a movie that looks so funny. Luckily, the red band trailer sold a lot of people on the film with its hilarious and vulgar content. The neverending onslaught of KICK-ASS media is still in full force, and this might just be the best thing we’ve gotten. Although the original red-band trailer was extremely awesome, this one lets us in on the story a little bit more. I have to admit, the story was never really what had me sold on this film – until now, that is.
It seems that they are putting a lot of characterization into the film while obviously not letting the humor go sour. It is also extremely odd, yet always funny, hearing Hit-Girl say some of the extremely profane things that come out of her mouth.

It is no secret that I’m obsessed with the surprisingly amazing Nickelodeon cartoon series “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” I resisted watching the series for a very long time, but when I did, I was instantly hooked. The scope of the series is so big, and I think should transition to a film trilogy extremely well. Once M. Night Shyamalan was attached as director, I knew this film would end up being one of my most anticipated films of the year.

“Sandman” is one of the most revered and highly praised comics of all time, very much like “Watchmen.” Fans have argued for ages if “Sandman” should be adapted to film or not. Much like “Watchmen” (which was ulimately turned into a feature last year), some argue that it is an unfilmable movie. But would it change fans’ minds if Matthew Vaughn, director of KICK-ASS, was at the helm?

Kevin Smith is one of my favorite writers in film today. Even in his most mentally void films, there is still a level of witty and clever humor. He really hit his stride with ZACK & MIRI MAKE A PORNO, which he is following up with COP OUT (which Smith has not written and is only directing). Unfortunately, COP OUT doesn’t look as good as we may have been hoping, but Smith is now trying to get the ball rolling on HIT SOMEBODY and get a studio attached. I’m not surprised at all that the amazing Katie Featherston would make it big time after PARANORMAL ACTIVITY came out. She gave one of the most real performances I’ve seen in a very long time. Apparently Danny Boyle liked her too, as she auditioned for a part in 127 HOURS and read a scene with him.
We reported earlier that Danny Boyle was making a film called 127 HOURS starring James Franco as Aron Ralston. Ralston is a mountain climber who was pinned underneath a boulder for five days, and amputated his arm to survive. The film is supposed to be very realistic, and will even feature an hour without dialogue. Featherston would fit right into the realistic tone, as she has proven her ability in that arena before. Jay Baruchel is a really underrated actor in my opinion, and I’m glad he is finally starting to land some leading roles in movies. Some of his upcoming projects look really great – like HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON and THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE, and then there’s SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE.
A while back we gave you the green band trailer for this upcoming rom-com romp, and now Dreamworks has given us a red band to feast our dirty minds on. Unfortunately, this is the most tame red band I’ve ever seen. The only funny scene in the trailer was the shaving bit. I will see this movie though, mainly because I like who they cast as his friends.

I feel like I was one of the only people excited about EDGE OF DARKNESS after seeing the film’s trailer. Martin Campbell blew me away with CASINO ROYALE, so I was almost automatically excited for this film. Not to mention that I actually like Mel Gibson as an actor, and was anxious to see him in a new film. HOT TUB TIME MACHINE is one of those movies that shouldn’t look very good, but somehow does. With the original green band trailer, I wasn’t sold on this one at all. Once the red band trailer came out though, my perception changed. Now we have a poster to satisfy us until the movie comes out.
