In other news; ANCHORMAN 2 gets some new details

It was kind of a huge bombshell when ANCHORMAN 2 was surprisingly announced a month ago. So far, details have been fairly scant, other than that the film could contain a custody battle as a part of the plot. This leads  us to believe that Christina Applegate will return for the film, although she is the one puzzle-piece yet to be addressed.

Now, thanks to director and co-writer Adam McKay, we have a few more details about the upcoming sequel.

According to McKay, one of the big themes of the film is “change,” something that the news team isn’t very good at handling. Luckily for us, the late seventies are upon them, a time when an incredible amount of change occurred in broadcasting, namely 24 hour news stations like CNN. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“It’s right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79. All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.”

Sounds like a really fun angle to take in the sequel, the turn of the decade being a really great point of time to start it. Ron Burgundy and the team have been in need of a sequel, and now it is actually happening. Hopefully more information comes out regarding Christina Applegate’s return. It’s hard to imagine an ANCHORMAN movie without Veronica Corningstone.
