D.J. Caruso in talks for sci-fi INVERTIGO

There are some directors, despite the way some of their films have gone, that you can’t help but root for. For me, D.J. Caruso is one of those filmmakers. I was so caught off guard by DISTURBIA, the modern day re-imaginging of REAR WINDOW, and was compelled by its charm and great performances. His follow-up films, EAGLE EYE and I AM NUMBER FOUR, didn’t quite pack the same punch.

Now Caruso is in talks for a new sci-fi picture called INVERTIGO.

The film follows the crash of a NASA satellite into New York City, which releases a “reverse-G vortex,” which would then invert gravity. A team must go in and stop the vortex, or there could be disastrous consequences. I’m having a hard time picturing this in a movie, but I mean that in a completely good way. I really dig this idea, and think it could make for a really cool movie.

Although I have been wanting Caruso to go back to something a little bit smaller, more contained, like DISTURBIA, I really do like the idea of him being involved in this project.

What do you guys think of the plot? Is Caruso a good match for it?

  1. Oh my god! I just read this and I am extremely shocked. I wrote an outline for a film exactly like this three years ago and pitched it to both Sony and Ehren Krueger who I had met through a friend when I was desperately trying to break into hollywood. I’ve been told to turn it into a book but now I’m not so sure. It was called Inverted
