Jason Segel definitely out of THE MUPPETS sequel

Both a star of the big screen and the small screen, Jason Segel has been a very busy man for the past several years. All his life he has been a big Muppet fan, and due to his puppet Dracula musical scene from the 2008 film FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL (which was also written by Segel), he got the opportunity to write The Muppets big return.

Last week, I wrote up on how Jason Segel wasn’t going to be involved with the writing process of THE MUPPETS sequel, but now we are getting word that he will not star in the film either.

Here’s a quote from an interview Segel did with Collider on his involvement with the film.

“It’s true [that I’m not involved writing the sequel] but it’s totally amicable. My goal was to bring The Muppets back and I did that, leaving them in very good hands, my writing partner and James Bobin the director. I did what I set out to do, and now I wanna pursue more human-related projects (laughs)… All I wanted to do was to set the stage for them to do whatever they wanted. I’m sure I’ll return in some capacity here and there, but that was half a decade of my life. Five years of hard work. I’m ready for a little puppet break.”

So from the sounds of it, Segel will likely appear with the Muppets again, but whether or not it would be a cameo in the film or even in a promotional capacity is still a mystery. Either way, the franchise has been left in the very capable hands of Nicholas Stoller (who co-wrote the first film), and the first film’s director James Bobin.
