Update on EASTERN PROMISES 2; not Cronenberg's next

We found out back in March that David Cronenberg’s EASTERN PROMISES was likely to receive a sequel. This would mark Cronenberg’s first sequel ever, but a sequel that actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks to one of the stars of the first film, Vincent Cassel, we have learned both exciting and saddening news about the project.

Check out what Cassel had to say after the break!

“I sure hope [it happens],” Cassel said confirming his intended involvement. “There’s a script, David Cronenberg wants to do it. The script is really good, so hopefully it’s going to go. I think David wants to make another film before [the sequel], but whenever they’re ready, I told them, ‘I’m here.’ I’m dying to do the sequel, and to be honest to work with Viggo Mortensen and David, it’s such an incredible experience. David is really easy to work with, it feels so [effortless] and when you see the results it’s always very compelling.”

The great news is that the script has been completed, showing that there is genuine interest in making this film. Not to mention that it is apparently really good, which is something I’ll take Cassel’s word on.

The sad news, of course, is that it won’t be Cronenberg’s next picture, which is reportedly going to be COSMOPOLIS starring Colin Farrell and Marion Cotillard. The film is set to begin filming in March, so we most likely have a long wait before EASTERN PROMISES 2.

How are you guys feeling about a sequel to EASTERN PROMISES? What direction would you like to see it go?

  1. Also agree with #1. Every single time First Blood is on TV I watch it (which has been happening a lot on AMC). Just a damn good movie. Really original protagonist and some really good antagonists too.
