Karl Urban now confirmed for JUDGE DREDD

Last week I wrote a report about Karl Urban, who is probably best known for his role of Leonard “Bones” McCoy in the newest STAR TREK film, possibly taking up the mantle of Judge Dredd from Sly Stallone. Although we knew very little then, we now know that Urban will definitely be taking up the role and some of his thoughts on the character.

Check out what he had to say after the break!

“Dredd is enigmatic, the faceless representative of justice. His prevailing attitudes, his strength of moral character, and the strength of his actions are what speak volumes for that character.”

Urban said this after expressing his interest in Dredd keeping his mask on throughout the entirety of the film. This news is probably blowing the mind of any fans of the comic series, as Dredd doesn’t ever lose the mask. It’s always nice to see when an actor really gets the character they’ll be portraying.

Excitement about a JUDGE DREDD film is genuinely not something that I expected, but this seems like really great casting. How do you guys feel about a new DREDD flick and Urban’s involvement?

  1. The casting seems fine – he could be cool as Judge Dredd but have you read the screenplay? I have – it's been posted oinline. In my humble opinion it's very unoriginal and uninspired. It's just Die Hard set in a MC-1 Block. The city, the culture, the crazy perps and crimes are totally ignored. I'm afraid not even Urban's enthusiasm and dedication can change a generic unoriginal storyline.
