Gerard Butler to be the male lead in A STAR IS BORN?

Gerard Butler A Star Is Born

A STAR IS BORN is a remake that’s basically inevitable at this point. Finding the male lead for the film has been a pretty big challenge from the get-go, with almost every one of their picks being Oscar worthy, and none of them being interested. Now it seems they’ve given up that dream, and moved on to a more Spartan one with Gerard Butler.

The “Star” in the film isn’t as much of a hassle from a casting standpoint, as the role has almost always belonged to Beyonce. It is a very fitting for Beyonce, but it is a little harder to picture Gerard Butler in the role. Maybe Butler has just been needing the right role (aside from 300) to prove he has chops. I do have hope that Butler can pull of the role, it would be nice to see him bring another great performance.

This will mark the fourth version of A STAR IS BORN, where all previous versions were big hits at the Oscars. Do you guys think this version has the potential to reach the same success as the previous versions?

  1. Whether or not she is or isn't a good actress isn't really the point. The main reason that it is a fitting role for her, is because it isn't too far from what she is best at, being a singer. I do agree that she has had some ups and some downs acting wise, but I thought she did a fine job in DREAMGIRLS, which is another similar and fitting role for her.
