Stephenie Meyer's THE HOST to film early 2011

After the TWILIGHT film series blew up, it was pretty much assumed that Stephenie Meyer’s other novel, The Host, would be adapted to film. This book is a science-fiction romance intended for adult audiences. People will soon be able to pass judgment on this film adaptation, because it is on its way to production quicker than most TWILIGHT fans are coming of age.

Andrew Niccol (GATTACA) was hired to write and direct the project last fall, and even though it’s been a while since the announcement, he still is on board. Since Niccol has experience working on a futuristic film with GATTACA, it seems that he was a good pick for THE HOST.

This is what producer Steve Schwartz had to say about the project:

“We asked Stephenie what her favorite science fiction movies were, and one of them was ‘Gattaca’. We spent time with Andrew, listened to his vision, introduced Andrew to Stephenie and she responded. There is very good chemistry in this group. Stephenie is a very smart collaborator, and she had an intuitive strong hunch he would be the right guy. Based on the script we’ve seen, we think she was right. We’re thinking this will be shot in early 2011.”

There you have it, THE HOST will most likely have an early 2011 start date. With Niccol’s involvement, this could be a really interesting project. I guess we’ll find out whenever we hear more about this project in the future.

  1. Now it sounds like the producers have moved from Cormac McCarthy to Stephanie Meyer. I loved THE HOST! Andrew Niccol is an interesting choice–I haven’t seen SIMONE, but GATTACA was a great film. The Host was weird but a movie might spice it up a bit! But what I really want to know about is the Twilight book from Edwards point of veiw I really like where she was going with it so far.reputation management
