MALEFICENT will be penned by ALICE IN WONDERLAND writer

A couple months back, we let everyone in on a project in the works by Disney called MALEFICENT. The film would be a remake of SLEEPING BEAUTY from the perspective of the villain, Maleficent. Supposedly the film was being made by Tim Burton, and would be his big follow-up to ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Now a writer has been picked up, that leads us to believe Burton might actually be in on this project.

Linda Woolverton, who just recently wrote ALICE IN WONDERLAND for Burton, will be penning MALEFICENT. It makes perfect sense why Disney would want to bring her aboard on this project since ALICE was a ridiculous box office success. There is no way Disney will want to get rid of that working formula.

But that still brings up the question, will this be Tim Burton’s next film? As of now, we don’t know. Woolverton penning the script could be a pretty good indicator that he might be involved though, or at least a way to get him interested. Time will tell, but until then be weary of any elderly ladies with wheels and spindles.
