A remake of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK has been in development hell for a pretty long time. Fans of the original have been mostly pleased that the film has not happened, but they’ll be dismayed to hear that the film is now on the fast track. After a rewrite by Allan Loeb (writer of WALL STREET 2), the film has been brought back to life.
There are a couple things that have been changed though. For example, New York won’t be a literal jail, instead it will be more of a penal colony. This is mainly being done for financial reasons, it can be very expensive to make New York look destroyed, this way they can leave the city mostly alone and instead fill it with dangerous villains (which is much cheaper). In addition, New York is said to be in ruins in the style of I AM LEGEND.
If you are dismayed by all this news, this might ease your pain a bit. Apparently whenever the studio expressed interest in making this film, they had to get permission from John Carpenter. Carpenter said okay, under certain very important circumstances. These circumstances included that the main character must be named “Snake,” he must always wear an eye patch, and he must “always be a bad-ass.”
With all this news, are any nerves you had about this film soothed?

I think that may have been my personal bias coming into play. Cobra has been one of my favorites for a long time and even though I recognize how important the original Rocky is to the whole series, I found the movie itself to be a tad slow and boring. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good movie mind you just a personal preference BTW, Stallone only got paid 30K to do Cop Land.
