To me, one of the biggest film shocks of 2008 was when Nick Fury showed up after the credits of IRON MAN. I was so excited after seeing that scene that I actually got a speeding ticket on my way home from the theater. That scene was the start of something much bigger for Sam Jackson and his version of Nick Fury, including no less than a nine picture deal with Marvel to reprise Nick Fury in future movies.
We know Jackson will return in as Fury in IRON MAN 2, and he is currently in the cast list of THOR. But, according to Mr. Jackson himself, he didn’t know he was in THOR, as Marvel has not yet contacted him about it. This is what Sam had to say about it:
“Nobody’s told me anything. I was reading the trades last week and I saw the cast list. My name was in it, so maybe I am doing something that I don’t know about and I’ll hear about it soon.”
This isn’t conclusive in any way that he isn’t actually in the film, he still could have an IRON MAN-style cameo at the end. Honestly, I think that would be the best fit for the character in a movie like THOR. When he was asked about his future with Marvel, he had this to say:
“I don’t know what’s going on. Since Disney’s bought the franchise, I have no idea what Marvel told them or even if my deal with Marvel is still valid.”
This bit worries me more, because a future without Sam Jackson as Nick Fury is a lot less bright for Marvel. This is especially true with THE AVENGERS coming up, because that movie needs Fury. But here’s the thing – up to this point, Disney has done everything they can to keep Marvel unchanged. They aren’t going to let anything get in the way of Jackson playing Nick Fury.
We’ll see what happens, for all we know Jackson could just be leading us on so we will be more surprised when he shows up in THOR. Marvel did convince audiences that he wasn’t in IRON MAN by taking his scene out of press screenings. But seriously, Marvel, don’t let us down!

I like Jackson but every time I've heard him talk, or read something he said.. guy never really seems to have a clue. I suspect he might be Hollywood's most prolific troll.

Possibly, I think he just works a lot so it gets confusing. In this case I really think he is just leading us on.
