AMC will make "The Walking Dead"

“The Walking Dead” is one of my favorite comics; even when I can’t afford any comics I have to find a couple dollars to pick this one up. The idea behind the comic is that it would be a long-running zombie story, just like reality would be. Reality doesn’t just end after two hours like movies do, and it certainly doesn’t end when the main character dies. The writer of the comic, Robert Kirkman, has proved time and time again that no one is safe by killing off many major characters.

We told you a while back that Frank Darabont had expressed interest in adapting the comic to a series. Now it’s official, and AMC has picked up that series.

AMC has ordered a pilot episode, which Darabont will direct, then they will decide if they want more. Being that every single other pilot AMC has ever ordered has moved on to become a hit series, I have a sneaking suspicion this one will make it too. AMC could be a pretty good home for the series too, because they will probably focus more on the drama than the zombie action.

My only fear is that even AMC will want to tame down “The Walking Dead” even though it is a cable channel. The comic is extremely graphic and mature and I’m not sure anything less than a premium channel like HBO or Showtime could really show the material. Regardless, with Darabont’s involvement, I’m incredibly excited. Are you guys excited for “The Walking Dead” series?
