There has been talk of a METAL GEAR SOLID movie for a very long time, and there was even an announcement in 2006. Fans rejoiced! They pulled out their Playstations, and started tapping away at their fan fiction scripts, and we didn’t hear about it again. Now we’ve gotten word, and it is a sad story for all the fans out there.
METAL GEAR SOLID (movie) producer Michael De Luca was quoted saying “I don’t think it’s going to move forward.” That alone is pretty self-explanatory, but then he went into more detail.
“The video game companies are very protective of their property and there are certain things a studio requires freedom-wise to market and distribute a movie effectively in a global marketplace and…it was just kind of impossible to get the agendas to match up.”
I can see that being a problem with the METAL GEAR SOLID license, which is Konami’s (the studio who releases the game) main series. Not only that, but I am sure Hideo Kojima (the creator of MGS) has a say, and he is quite picky when it comes to the series.
So, for now at least, there won’t be a METAL GEAR SOLID movie, but I still think we will see one eventually. Until then, Solid Snake has FOXDIE, and I think I can hear Otacon in the distance yelling “Snake?! Snake!? SNAAAAAAAKKKEEEEE!?!?!”

GOOD! Metal Gear is plenty cinematic as it is. A film adaptation could only hurt the franchise's reputation.

I would love for there to be a movie, but only if it was done right. I really wish those rumors about Paul Thomas Anderson helming the MGS movie were true.

I want Hideo Kojima to write and direct it. A P. T. Anderson version would be interesting.

I agree in a lot of respects, but I still would kind of enjoy a movie version. It would just be really hard to do it right. If they did though, it would be way good.
