CAPTAIN AMERICA to begin filming in June

CAPTAIN AMERICA

Aside from Hawkeye and Spider-Man, Captain America is one of my favorite Marvel heroes. You can’t even imagine my excitement when FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA was announced. I immediately had a rush of images and ideas about what the film would be like.

Then they admitted that the film would take place during World War II before Cap is frozen, and then The Avengers would find him in the AVENGERS film. Marvel has been pretty tight-lipped about the film, including any casting information. As soon as I left the theater after STAR TREK, I was preaching about how perfect Chris Pine is (Marvel, take note), but it’s half a year later and we’ve still got no new casting info. But in Fangoria’s interview with FIRST AVENGER’s director Joe Johnston, this awesome tidbit came out:

“Speaking from the art department of THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA, which he’s readying for a June start.”

This is big news! This means that if they don’t have the title role cast, they will very soon and we can expect to hear some casting news. FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA is set to be released July 22nd, 2011.

Who do you guys think should play Cap in a feature version of the Marvel hero?

  1. Leo would be perfect. But, if you look at his IMDB, it says he's in development for Aquaman (which brings in light to who might be in the JLA film). Arthur Curry and Steve Rogers look very similar, so if this Aquaman thing falls out he'd be a good canidate.Since I was let down in not seeing Bradley Cooper cast as Green Lantern, I think he would make a great Cap. Do you think we'll see a Bucky?

  2. I'm sure Bucky will be in it, but then again I wouldn't be offended if he wasn't. I just see no reason not to add him into it. He wouldn't convolute the story too much, and I think he would add a lot to the plot.Leo isn't a bad pick, I can't really see Bradley Cooper doing it though. I wish we had a time machine though, cause Matt Damon like… ten years younger would be perfect.I think that Cap is one of those comic book heroes that it wouldn't be hard to make a good movie version of (ignore the 90's movie that doesn't count). But he is also one of those characters that you CANNOT change. Whereas with say X-men. Losing the costumes makes you and me sad, it ultimately doesn't ruin what is so great about the X-men. Cap NEEDS the costume unchanged and awesome. Helmet Cap would be okay too, at least for FIRST AVENGER.

  3. I agree completely with Chris Pine, I think that if Marvel is smart, and can acquire him, they need to. Renner recently claimed that he was approached about being Hawkeye (My favorite hero!), which basically means that he would work as Cap. They are so similar in appearance (Steve Rogers and Clint Barton). In fact comic fans might remember in the 3rd or 4th issue of “Captain America: Fallen Son” which was Clint Barton being offered the mantle of Captain America (as Hawkeye and Bucky are able to throw his shield). I have provided the article about Renner playing Hawkeye below.http://gordonandthewhale.com/jeremy-renner-migh
