Get your game on: Here's a trailer for the new STAR TREK game

Trek

I know we don’t really talk about video games all that often on this site, but today I bring you some news that fits into both movie and game territory. The game in question is based off of the upcoming STAR TREK film sequel, and stars new Kirk and Spock, with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto’s likenesses. The game will be a bridge between the first film and it’s sequel.

Now there is a new trailer out for the game, which you can check out after the break!

Upcoming "Star Trek" video game to bridge Abrams films

I’ve been an avid video game enthusiast for nearly my entire life. It started at the age of two with an NES, and since then I’ve done everything I could to get my hands on all the various gaming consoles. At this year’s E3, one of the biggest video game conventions in the world, a new Star Trek game was announced, one that would focus on co-operative gameplay.

One of the writers of the new STAR TREK franchise, Roberto Orci, has now come out to tell us a little about how it fits into the universe they are creating.

Orci tells Gamepro that the game will take place right in between the first film and its forthcoming sequel, and defends the claim that it will fit into the canon of the films. He mentions the long-held argument fans use of franchises, especially those with the fanbase and longevity of something like Star Trek, that if it doesn’t happen on screen, then it isn’t canon. To this Orci argues that “the first time where the game itself is generated by the people who are deciding canon and we generated the game to fit within canon.” It makes sense, if the game doesn’t directly contradict anything the movies do, then who’s to say it isn’t canon? Video game film, JUST CAUSE, on its way

Video game movies are always hit-or-miss, and some make a lot more sense than others. Fans are always up in arms over the latest translation of their favorite series, hoping that the next one can finally be right. The most recent one to be hitting the big screen will be JUST CAUSE, based off the balls-to-the-wall game series of the same name.

For those who aren’t familiar with the series, the game features an open sandbox environment where destruction is your main goal, and chaotic stunts ensue. Fear for the upcoming film is something I can certainly relate with, but I feel there is proof that this film could be good. Continue reading “Video game film, JUST CAUSE, on its way”

New Japanese TEKKEN poster

TEKKEN cut

TEKKEN was probably one of the first Playstation games I owned. I used to always have my friends over to play, and we would have bracketed tournaments. And,just like every great video game series, a movie version of TEKKEN is being soon-to-be-released.

Most video game movies make fans sigh and wonder why Hollywood bothered (STREET FIGHTER), others make fans jump with excitement because they look so good (PRINCE OF PERSIA). Nobody knows with TEKKEN, though, because we don’t know much about it. TEKKEN is set for release in Japan in March 6th, 2010 by Warner Bros., but this poster might create some buzz in the states. You can check out the poster after the jump! Continue reading “New Japanese TEKKEN poster”
