Futuristic ZORRO REBORN looking at Ricardo de Montreuil to direct

I know I’m pretty much the only person excited for this film, largely due to my ridiculous and unfounded optimism toward pretty much everything, but I think a futuristic Zorro film could actually be really great. Zorro hasn’t been cool in ages, and although MASK OF ZORRO had a lot to enjoy, it’s sequel LEGEND OF ZORRO didn’t strike the iron quite so hot. But MASK OF ZORRO was almost fourteen years ago at this point. We need something new.

This is where ZORRO REBORN comes in. Gael Garcia Bernal is likely to be the lead, and has a screen test set up to decide if he will be the star. The screen test is set to be directed by Peruvian director Ricardo de Montreuil, which means they are likely looking at him to direct the film. If you would have told me that John Cusack could pull off Edgar Allen Poe, I never in a million of years would have believed you. It’s hard to imagine him in a role of the sort, and it just doesn’t seem like a great fit. But, according to this photo, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
