
I’ve been an avid video game enthusiast for nearly my entire life. It started at the age of two with an NES, and since then I’ve done everything I could to get my hands on all the various gaming consoles. At this year’s E3, one of the biggest video game conventions in the world, a new Star Trek game was announced, one that would focus on co-operative gameplay.
One of the writers of the new STAR TREK franchise, Roberto Orci, has now come out to tell us a little about how it fits into the universe they are creating.
Orci tells Gamepro that the game will take place right in between the first film and its forthcoming sequel, and defends the claim that it will fit into the canon of the films. He mentions the long-held argument fans use of franchises, especially those with the fanbase and longevity of something like Star Trek, that if it doesn’t happen on screen, then it isn’t canon. To this Orci argues that “the first time where the game itself is generated by the people who are deciding canon and we generated the game to fit within canon.” It makes sense, if the game doesn’t directly contradict anything the movies do, then who’s to say it isn’t canon?
