JOHN CARTER OF MARS update from Andrew Stanton

There’s a little bug going around that’s pulling some of Pixar’s biggest directors out of the animation world and placing them firmly in live-action land. First, we have THE INCREDIBLES director Brad Bird directing MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL, and now we have FINDING NEMO and WALL-E director Andrew Stanton bringing JOHN CARTER OF MARS to the big screen.

Although principal photography is complete on JOHN CARTER, Stanton is now in what he is calling digital principal photography, claiming this stage will take the rest of the year. Continue reading “JOHN CARTER OF MARS update from Andrew Stanton”

Marvel hires a writer to pen BLACK PANTHER

We’ve known for a while that Marvel was seizing the opportunity that Disney gave them, with a big interest in bringing many of their lesser-known heroes to the forefront of their universe. Yet, very few of those heroes have been brought to the big screen. Now it looks like they are very serious about turning Black Panther, one of the heroes a bit more well-known to the comic community yet mostly unknown to the general public, into one of those properties.

Marvel has officially brought on Mark Bailey to pen the adaptation of the comic; Bailey is most well-known for his work in documentaries such as PANDEMIC: FACING AIDS. It is a little peculiar that Marvel chose someone who hasn’t really proven themselves as a screenwriter for a film like BLACK PANTHER. Continue reading “Marvel hires a writer to pen BLACK PANTHER”

THE MUPPETS MOVIE release date moved to Thanksgiving 2011

The release of the next Muppet movie, now called THE MUPPETS MOVIE, couldn’t come any sooner, as it seems like a project I’ve been waiting years for. Of course, we should all just be glad that it is indeed happening. Now it looks as though the wait will be a little bit shorter than anticipated, as Disney has moved the release date up from Christmas 2011, to Thanksgiving 2011.

Hit the break to see what Disney had to say about the move! Continue reading “THE MUPPETS MOVIE release date moved to Thanksgiving 2011”

Gore Verbinski considering directing THE LONE RANGER

Ever since THE LONE RANGER remake was announced, starring Johnny Depp as Tonto instead of The Lone Ranger, I’ve had a hard time finding myself excited about the film. There’s nothing really wrong with the project, but there also have not been any other ideas thrown out there that I found exciting.

That changes with this latest piece of news concerning who might be in the director’s chair. Continue reading “Gore Verbinski considering directing THE LONE RANGER”

Mark Ruffalo to do mo-cap for The Hulk

Although news of Mark Ruffalo playing The Hulk in the upcoming superhero team-up THE AVENGERS was at first a little disheartening, he is quickly earning our hearts and trust with the role. Every news bit that comes out about the film makes it seem as though they’re on the right track, and this news certainly follows that trend.

The Hulk might be a little more Ruffalo than you expected, as he will be doing motion capture for the character. Continue reading “Mark Ruffalo to do mo-cap for The Hulk”

Marvel hires screenwriter for IRON FIST movie

Disney’s acquisition of Marvel has brought  forth infinite more possibilities for Marvel properties to make it to the big screen. One of the first of which seems to be Iron Fist, a character very well known for fans of comics, but virtually unknown to everyone else.

Disney has now picked up a writer to pen a script for the character. Continue reading “Marvel hires screenwriter for IRON FIST movie”

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES delayed?

I’m just as curious about the next PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN film as the next guy, and can’t wait for the day that it hits theaters. This sentiment is built off the notion that ON STRANGER TIDES will be very Jack Sparrow-centric and, let’s face it, he’s the best part of the series.

Unfortunately, now it is very possible that we might have to wait even longer to get the film; can’t it catch a break? Continue reading “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES delayed?”

Joe Quesada gets a promotion; Marvel fans rejoice

This is why Marvel has been finding so much recent success, because it seems like every big move they make is so damn smart. Joe Quesada has been instrumental in Marvel’s successes since he became the Editor-in-Chief a decade ago. Many of their more daring and inventive story arcs are because he took a chance, and allowed stuff that others probably wouldn’t.

Well, he just got a promotion to Chief Creative Officer at Marvel, which will make his pull even stronger in Marvel’s other endeavors that aren’t just the funny books. Continue reading “Joe Quesada gets a promotion; Marvel fans rejoice”

Jerry Bruckheimer goes LIGHTSPEED with Disney

I wouldn’t put it as a rule of thumb, but I generally dig movies that Jerry Bruckheimer produces. They are usually fun, action-packed adventures that help you let loose and have a good time. Of course, everyone remembers the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN films that he made with Disney, and their most recent effort PRINCE OF PERSIA is looking pretty damn good. Now they’re looking to go to Space together, as Disney has bought a pitch for him to produce called LIGHTSPEED. Continue reading “Jerry Bruckheimer goes LIGHTSPEED with Disney”

MALEFICENT will be penned by ALICE IN WONDERLAND writer

A couple months back, we let everyone in on a project in the works by Disney called MALEFICENT. The film would be a remake of SLEEPING BEAUTY from the perspective of the villain, Maleficent. Supposedly the film was being made by Tim Burton, and would be his big follow-up to ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Now a writer has been picked up, that leads us to believe Burton might actually be in on this project. Continue reading “MALEFICENT will be penned by ALICE IN WONDERLAND writer”
