Theatrical Review: JOHN CARTER

Although sometimes we might take it for granted, we are very lucky to live in the time that we do. Everyone carries computer-phones in their pockets that rival the technology found in science fiction novels, we are all connected together via a web of information that we call the Internet, and production value of cinema can be so impressive that we might question which parts of it are real or fake.

Enter Disney’s JOHN CARTER. The story is based off the character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, you guessed it, named John Carter. The film is directly inspired by Burroughs’ novel The Princess of Mars, and follows Carter, who is played by Taylor Kitsch. He ultimately finds himself in the middle of a war between two cities of seemingly-human beings, and one more traditional alien race. Of all the already exciting aspects we had for JOHN CARTER OF MARS, the most exciting certainly has to be FINDING NEMO and WALL-E director Andrew Stanton in the directors chair. However, in a turn that seems to be for marketing purposes, JOHN CARTER OF MARS will now be known as JOHN CARTER. Continue reading “JOHN CARTER OF MARS loses MARS”

JOHN CARTER OF MARS update from Andrew Stanton

There’s a little bug going around that’s pulling some of Pixar’s biggest directors out of the animation world and placing them firmly in live-action land. First, we have THE INCREDIBLES director Brad Bird directing MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL, and now we have FINDING NEMO and WALL-E director Andrew Stanton bringing JOHN CARTER OF MARS to the big screen.

Although principal photography is complete on JOHN CARTER, Stanton is now in what he is calling digital principal photography, claiming this stage will take the rest of the year. Continue reading “JOHN CARTER OF MARS update from Andrew Stanton”

JOHN CARTER OF MARS will be scored by Michael Giacchino

Right now, Michael Giacchino is a force to be reckoned with as far as film scores are concerned. Last year was a really big year for him; he wrote two of the most enthralling scores – STAR TREK and Pixar’s UP. His work on the latter ended up winning him the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Needless to say, producers want him to score their films, and we just found out what one of his next projects will be. Continue reading “JOHN CARTER OF MARS will be scored by Michael Giacchino”
