SEASON OF THE WITCH gets a new poster

SEASON OF THE WITCH cut

Lionsgate is gearing up for the March 19 release of SEASON OF THE WITCH by putting out a new poster. So far, we’ve a seen a teaser and a trailer, just enough to pique interest in the horror film. The film was directed by Dominic Sena, who also directed GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS, SWORDFISH (so awesome!), and WHITEOUT which came out earlier this year. Unfortunately for Sena, WHITEOUT went through critical hell and was almost universally disliked. Maybe he can redeem himself with this one.

Check out the rest of the poster after the jump! Continue reading “SEASON OF THE WITCH gets a new poster”

Danny McBride founds production company, Rough House

Danny McBride

Just a couple years ago, Danny McBride was practically unknown. Then a little film by first time director Jody Hill came out, titled FOOT FIST WAY. The film got the attention of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, who were attached as producers. After that, McBride had no trouble getting other roles, and is now one of the most recognizable faces in comedy movies.

McBride, along with FOOT FIST WAY director Jody Hill, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS director David Gordon Green, and Warner Bros. exec Matt Reilly have founded a new high-concept comedy powerhouse named Rough House. Mandate Pictures acquired a two year deal with Rough House, could this be a match made in heaven? Continue reading “Danny McBride founds production company, Rough House”

James Cameron is producing FANTASTIC VOYAGE 3-D

Fantastic Voyage

I know what you’re thinking, and no it isn’t a feature version of the Coolio song (oh, how I miss you, 1994). Although Hollywood’s remake fever is usually annoying, some projects reek of promise. As of now, that seems to be the case for this project.

James Cameron spoke with MTV about his next project he is developing at Fox, a remake of the 1966 classic, FANTASTIC VOYAGE. Cameron will not be directing this movie though, however, he will be the producer. The original was about a team of doctors who are shrunk and sent inside the president’s body after an assassination attempt. They run into many obstacles on their submarine journey to his brain to remove a blood clot, which will save his life.

Being that Cameron is producing the film, it has a very good chance at being awesome. I can’t wait to see this story with the special effects that we have today. After seeing how amazing AVATAR looks in 3-D, The 3-D for this film seems more promising. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this project in coming months.

Will FALLEN make angels the new vampires?

Fallen Title

After the immeasurable success that TWILIGHT has become, it makes sense that all the studios would want to bank on that success. While TV shows like “True Blood” and “Vampire Diaries” have been extremely successful, CIRQUE DU FREAK: THE VAMPIRE’S ASSISTANT didn’t catch on when it was released a couple of months ago. Now Disney wants their shot.

Disney optioned the rights to FALLEN, which is based off the first novel by Lauren Kate in her four book series, about a young girl who is torn between the love of two fallen angels who battle for her. Yeah, it does sound a lot like TWILIGHT with angels. I think Disney might be looking ahead with this one. With LEGION coming out next month, there could be a renewed interest in fallen angel movies.

This could be a good movie, most likely it will be a TWILIGHT clone though. I’m curious, though – who would win in an all-out battle royale between fallen angels and vampires? Let me know in the comments below!

TAKEN scribe sells VENGEANCE

Robert Mark Kamen

Every now and then, an action film comes out and surprises audiences with its quality. More often than not, action movies are fun to watch but are lacking a genuinely good plot. That was certainly not the case for TAKEN, which came out last year. In fact, I haven’t talked to a single person that didn’t agree that TAKEN kicked ass, and apparently CBS Films agrees.

Robert Mark Kamen, who co-wrote TAKEN with Luc Besson, sold CBS Films on a pitch for a “contemporary revenge love story,” titled VENGEANCE. He goes on to compare the film to THE GODFATHER and states, “It’s about family loyalty and how much someone owes their family and the past. It’s not set in the gangster milieu but just outside it.” Continue reading “TAKEN scribe sells VENGEANCE”
