Kevin Smith's RED STATE finds a green light, will shoot before HIT SOMEBODY

Kevin Smith has been talking (and tweeting) about RED STATE for a very long time. The project has gone through development hell because of it’s dark and bleak nature. The pitch was originally turned down by the Weinsteins and at one point there was talk about making a fan funded film. Thanks to some tweets by Smith, we know that a studio is giving him some trust and RED STATE has been green lit.

SXSW 2010 Video Interview: Director Malcolm Ingram (BEAR NATION)

Malcolm Ingram talks Bear Nation with GordonandtheWhale.com

Malcolm Ingram is a documentary filmmaker who previously directed SMALL TOWN GAY BAR. His new film, BEAR NATION, was such a nice look at the Bear community, and what Malcolm sees as its upsides and downsides. Malcolm himself is a Bear, and although he may not be in the film at all, he is very much the backbone.

Right out of the gate, he called me a Cubby and made me start cracking up. The entire time we talked, he was very funny and extremely nice to be around. BEAR NATION premiered at SXSW a few days ago and with all of the positive gossip (including mine) going around post screening, I wouldn’t be surprised if this got picked up by a distributor very soon.

Louis Leterrier on a shortlist to direct THE AVENGERS?

There’s really no telling how close we are to an announcement on who will be directing THE AVENGERS. Cries by fanboys everywhere (myself included) were pleading for Jon Favreau to take the job, but he announced he will only be executive producer. After that, talk of directors dispelled mostly, until now. While speaking to Ain’t It Cool, THE INCREDIBLE HULK director Louis Leterrier said he might be on board.

You can check out what he had to say after the jump! Continue reading “Louis Leterrier on a shortlist to direct THE AVENGERS?”

JOHN CARTER OF MARS will be scored by Michael Giacchino

Right now, Michael Giacchino is a force to be reckoned with as far as film scores are concerned. Last year was a really big year for him; he wrote two of the most enthralling scores – STAR TREK and Pixar’s UP. His work on the latter ended up winning him the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Needless to say, producers want him to score their films, and we just found out what one of his next projects will be. Continue reading “JOHN CARTER OF MARS will be scored by Michael Giacchino”

AN EDUCATION made a splash last year when it was released to critical acclaim, and subsequently was nominated for three Oscars. Although the film left the Oscars empty handed, its achievements haven’t been forgotten. Hot off the heels of its recognition at the Oscars, AN EDUCATION director Lone Scherfig has acquired Anne Hathaway to star in her next film. SXSW 2010: Trailer for CHERRY

Every now and then, a film comes along that has this certain charm that completely wins over audiences. GARDEN STATE comes to mind as one of these films, and I certainly get that vibe from the trailer of CHERRY. The film portrays a wild child mother, her equally wild daughter, and their peculiar and inappropriate relationship with a boy.

The film was written and directed by Jeffery Fine, and stars Kyle Gallner, who previously showed his acting chops in HBO’s “Big Love,” and is one of the stars of the upcoming A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake. The film’s world premiere is at SXSW next week. Final PRINCE OF PERSIA theatrical poster

Disney’s PRINCE OF PERSIA sounds like a bad idea on paper, but with the resources it’s been given by the House of Mouse, it has the opportunity to be pretty fun. Last week we had a new trailer come out, and to further put fire under this leather-clad, saber-wielding, time-bending adventure, Disney has put out the final theatrical poster.

You can check out the poster in all its Gyllenhaal-filled glory after the jump! Continue reading “Final PRINCE OF PERSIA theatrical poster”

Forest Whitaker no longer in JEKYLL AND HYDE

forest whitaker no longer in jekyll and hyde

JEKYLL AND HYDE is a property that has been really underrepresented. Yes, there have been versions of it such as the original NUTTY PROFESSOR  and its subsequent remake. Aside from those, the classic property has just been at a standstill. Unfortunately, the future of one of the most promising upcoming adaptations is looking very dark.
