Zac Efron set to lead American AKIRA remake?

An American take on AKIRA has been in the works for a very long time now, and in several different incarnations, none of which have yet panned out. It seems that the most recent movement on the project might just be the one that does come to fruition. This is even further propelled by the news that we are getting our first bit of (what seem to be) legitimate casting rumors on the project.

Reportedly, Zac Efron is in talks to take up the lead role in the film, which will be directed by The Hughes Brothers (MENACE II SOCIETY, BOOK OF ELI). The casting of Efron seems to show that the project is trying to be a blockbuster, and have some marquee cache for the American moviegoing public, who may not be very familiar with the source material, but are fans of Efron. SILENT HILL 2 is happening with Michael J. Basset set to direct

SILENT HILL was a very valiant effort in the never-ending fight to make a genuinely good video game movie. In fact, even though I didn’t really care for the movie much at all it might be one of the better video game films to be made. Now, four years after the first film, we are finally seeing some momentum on a sequel.

Michael J. Bassett, director of SOLOMON KANE, will be be directing the sequel, which will be known as SILENT HILL: REVELATIONS. As to be expected, the new film is set to be in 3D. Continue reading “SILENT HILL 2 is happening with Michael J. Basset set to direct”

New TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE gets new writers

The news of another new TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE film came out a while back, when Twisted Pictures (the sickos behind the SAW franchise) picked up the rights to the series. It wasn’t too long before Twisted Pictures started setting up their most advanced trap yet, a 3D TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE film. This extremely advanced engineering marvel of death is still chugging along, but now with new writers.

Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan are working on their version of the script, which is said to take place 35 years after the original film. In fact, they are wanting it to pick up immediately after the end of the original film, then flash forward into present day. The film isn’t supposed to have anything to do with the remakes of a couple years ago, thankfully. Continue reading “New TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE gets new writers”

Miley Cyrus led LOL to be distributed by Lionsgate

I love Miley Cyrus as much as the next guy, and it’s quite obvious that she is the future of Hollywood. Although I understand all the Miley hate for just being who she is, it’s hard to deny that she actually has some acting skill.

Apparently Lionsgate agrees, and will be distributing her upcoming film LOL. Continue reading “Miley Cyrus led LOL to be distributed by Lionsgate”

Pitch for movie about Acme Warehouse picked up by WB

I’ve never kept my love for all things Looney Tunes a secret, in fact I can remember being quite vocal about it in the recent past. Recently, WB has brought back their famous franchise as a series of shorts, and now they want to bank off the series.

Warner Bros. has picked up a pitch for a film about the company that provides all the zany weapons to the characters, Acme. Check out the details after the break. Continue reading “Pitch for movie about Acme Warehouse picked up by WB”

Matthew Broderick joins Brett Ratner's TOWER HEIST

Matthew Broderick is one of those few examples of actors who were, at one point, seemingly on top of the world, but somehow never really caught on. That being said, it is always an exciting prospect when he is cast in a film, since he is more than capable of bringing a really great performance to the table. This is one of those examples.

Broderick has joined the amazing cast of Brett Ratner’s film, TOWER HEIST. Check out the description of his character after the break! Continue reading “Matthew Broderick joins Brett Ratner's TOWER HEIST”

GATW Podcast Ep. 30: Doubly Talented

Few things are as important for a successful film than a director that understands the art of acting, a skill that has steered some of the best films that have ever been made. Subsequently, this is also why actors are also some of the best directors. With the recent release of Clint Eastwood’s (one of the most revered actor/directors of all time) HEREAFTER, we figured we’d throw down on our favorite movies by actor/directors.

You can check out the episode after the break! Continue reading “GATW Podcast Ep. 30: Doubly Talented”

Will Brad Pitt star in a film based on "In With The Devil"?

Brad Pitt is one of those actors who you can’t help but respect as an actor, even when he does films that don’t exactly…show off his thespian skill. Let’s face it, he’s the pretty boy that just so happens to be a damn fine actor. Some of the roles that Pitt is most remembered for include his more outlandish characters, something that he seems to be doing less and less these days.

Now it seems he is looking to get back to his out-there roots with a film based off the book In With The Devil. Continue reading “Will Brad Pitt star in a film based on "In With The Devil"?”

Bryan Singer's JACK THE GIANT KILLER greenlit

Bryan Singer has been working towards making JACK THE GIANT KILLER a reality for a while now, despite it being plagued with delays and roadblocks, an unfortunate fate for a film from such a talented director such as Singer. However, t looks like they have finally gotten everything worked out just right and the film will finally happen, as the film has officially been greenlit.

In addition to the film being greenlit, there is a lot of buzz surrounding what young actor will be taking up the title role in the film. Supposedly it has turned into a much sought after role, and is getting the attention of young actors everywhere. Supposedly that won’t matter though, as Singer supposedly has his eyes set on a certain actor who has burst onto the scene. That actor is Aaron Johnson.
