Seth Grahame-Smith sells pitch for FROM MIA WITH LOVE

There’s a good chance that if you’re reading this site, you’re pretty excited for the upcoming adaptation of ABRAHAM LINCOLN, VAMPIRE HUNTER. The film is a geek dream, and it all seems to be working out pretty successfully. It seems as if the team behind the film has both a solid cast and a really good production staff on-board that will lead the film into success.

Now the writer of the film is working on a new project. Novelist and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith has sold a pitch to 20th Century Fox for a John Hughes-inspired film called FROM MIA WITH LOVE.

The film follows three friends who order a mail order bride who, upon arrival, declines to have sex with them. Instead, she trains them in the art of getting girls, and all four of them find a place of common ground. The plot does give me a WIERD SCIENCE kind of vibe, and that is something that I can certainly get behind. They key will be some deep characterization and making the characters relatable – which was how John Hughes was so successful. Jack Black signs up for a BAILOUT

In the past, I’ve been known to really enjoy Jack Black movies, due to both his crazy antics and his ridiculous over-the-top presence. However, the past several years have led to a slump in the quality of his productions. In fact, the last time I remember really liking him in something was 2008’s TROPIC THUNDER. The kiddies have him in the KUNG FU PANDA series, but maybe us adults can get him back with BAILOUT.

BAILOUT is an upcoming comedy to be directed by Michael Winterbottom, which follows a man who is down and just plain out of luck. He loses his job and is piled underneath a mountain of debt, and things can’t seem to get any worse. He then meets two losers at the supermarket who give him a chance to redeem himself and win back his losses. Continue reading “Jack Black signs up for a BAILOUT”

Mos Def joins "Dexter" for sixth season

Dexter has been a groundbreaking show for its network, Showtime, and has engaged fans for five seasons now. The sixth season will be premiering later this year, so Showtime is starting to give us some ideas as to what we should expect. Just a couple days ago, we found out that Colin Hanks would be joining the next season, and now we are getting word of another casting decision.

Rapper and actor Mos Def will be joining the next season for a multi-episode arc, where he will come under Dexter’s consideration. The role is described as “a hardened ex-con who claims to have found religion yet seems to continually find himself surrounded by violence.” Mos Def has the acting chops to pull off a role like this, so I can’t wait to see how he will portray the character. UPDATED: Alec Baldwin wants to be replaced on ROCK OF AGES

Alec Baldwin

UPDATED: Deadline now reports that Baldwin is staying with the film.

Alec Baldwin is a pretty amazing actor who has, in recent years, proved himself as an extremely likable comedic force. From films like IT’S COMPLICATED to his role in the NBC sitcom 30 Rock, Baldwin is at the top of his game. His next big role was set to be in the film adaptation of a Broadway musical called ROCK OF AGES.

It seems, however, that Baldwin might not end up in the film after all.

According to Deadline, Baldwin has asked New Line to replace him in the film. The part in question is that of a Bourbon Room owner named Dennis Dupree, an important role in the film that has a big musical number with it. Other popular comedic actors such as Steve Carell and Will Ferrell passed on the role, so now New Line will have to look even harder. Rod Lurie to direct BORDERLINE

Well-made thrillers are some of the most engaging films that get released. Between their exciting, more action-oriented scenes and the mentally stimulating mysteries, they offer up a product that often breaks the genre barrier. Most of the time you leave the theater going back over the story in your head, trying to remember back to all the clues that were presented throughout.

Now we have a new thriller being made, called BORDERLINE, and the people behind the movie pack quite a punch.

The film was written by Justin Marks, and will be directed by Rod Lurie, who most recently wrote and directed the upcoming STRAW DOGS remake. The film follows a man who must deal with a criminal who has kidnapped his wife and daughter. Surely there will be a lot more to the story, but such as with thrillers, most of it stays a mystery. Steve Carell's SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD picked up by Focus Features

Steve Carell is one of the biggest stars out there these days, and there is a good chance his stock could go even higher. For the past seven seasons, Carell has held one of the lead roles of The Office as the bumbling boss, Michael Scott. It was announced that he would be leaving the show this season, and April 28th episode marked his departure. Now he should have more time for his already busy schedule.

With that being said, his upcoming film, co-starring Keira Knightley, SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, now has a U.S. distributor.

Focus Features has picked up the film, which is supposed to begin filming this month in Los Angeles. It follows Carell’s character as he goes on a nationwide trip to meet up with his girlfriend before the world comes to an end. Keira Knightley’s character will be joining him to throw wrenches into the mix. Carell and Knightley together seems like a really interesting fit in terms of chemistry. They seem like they could play really well together. Continue reading “Steve Carell's SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD picked up by Focus Features”

Lizzy Caplan says a PARTY DOWN movie could happen

What happens when you put a really hilarious show, with an incredibly entertaining cast on a premium cable network that isn’t all that well-known? Well, that show ends up getting prematurely cancelled. Such was the case for Starz’ Party Down, a show about a Los Angeles catering team with quite interesting backgrounds.

However, according to one of the show’s stars, Lizzy Caplan, a movie could be coming down the pipeline.

During an interview with The Playlist, Caplan talked a little bit about the show and its possible movie spin-off. Although the news is positive, she doesn’t want to get our hopes up too high:

“I have a lot of faith, all of us have a lot of faith. I do not think it’s a ‘don’t hold your breath’ situation but until there’s something more concrete happening, maybe hold your breath a little bit. It’s not for lack of interest on the parts of the cast and the creators of the show. If there’s any way we can do it, then we will do it, and we are definitely on top of that idea.” Continue reading “Lizzy Caplan says a PARTY DOWN movie could happen”

Script for third BILL & TED movie finished, according to Alex Winter

The BILL & TED movies were a big part of my teenage years, and they practically lived in my DVD player. The rock star milieu, the slacker mentality, and of course George Carlin made those films an instant classic amongst my group of friends.

Talk of a third film has been out and about for a very long time now, with the word only getting much louder as of late. But now it is louder than ever, as according to Bill himself, the script is completed. Continue reading “Script for third BILL & TED movie finished, according to Alex Winter”

GATW Podcast Ep. 43: The Villains

Villains are a big deal these days. Ever since Javier Bardem played Anton Chigurh in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, they have been recognized both by fans and at the oscars. Following Bardem’s win there was Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker and Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa, both also won the award. Although Ghostface from SCREAM 4 won’t be up for any oscars, he did inspire us to talk about some of our favorite villains.
