Stephen King throws in his two cents on the CARRIE remake

Just last week, we got word that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had been hired to script a remake of the classic horror film CARRIE, based off the book by the legendary Stephen King. The project follows a long line of horror remakes that studios have decided to rehash, and thanks to MGM and Screen Gems that is set to happen with CARRIE.

But how does the writer of the book feel about the remake? Hit the break to see what Stephen King thinks about the project. Continue reading “Stephen King throws in his two cents on the CARRIE remake”

"The Transporter" television series gets its driver

Although his name isn’t quite what it used to be, Luc Besson still has an important spot in my heart for the often auteur-like style he brings to action movies. One of his creations that has the most bearing in today’s film climate is certainly THE TRANSPORTER series. Although many people have a love-hate relationship with the series, especially with the second film, it is popular enough to where it is receiving its own television series.

Now we officially have a Jason Statham replacement for the series, and the man to do it is Chris Vance. Vance was recently in the past season of Showtime’s Dexter, where he played the best friend and body guard to Dexter’s main antagonist. In that show, he got to play the tough guy role, something that is sure to help him out in The Transporter. My biggest question is if he will keep his head of hair for the show, but only time will tell that much. Continue reading “"The Transporter" television series gets its driver”

FLETCH reboot gets a new writer

People just don’t talk about FLETCH enough anymore, even though it was very popular at the time of release and went on to become a cult classic. It kind of makes sense though, as you can look at all the other amazing films its star, Chevy Chase, was a part of in the eighties. Need I say more than SPIES LIKE US?

The FLETCH reboot has been off and on for years now, but finally this incarnation has gotten its writer.

David Mandel, who most recently co-wrote the upcoming Sascha Baron Cohen film THE DICTATOR, has been hired to give FLETCH his next shot. The film is said to be a reimagining of the series and its title character, hoping to broaden the scope of the series a bit. The studio is very serious about getting this film made, and expect to tie it all up with an A-list comedy star. Continue reading “FLETCH reboot gets a new writer”

Vincenzo Natali’s NEUROMANCER begins pre-production

Back in 2009, Vincenzo Natali hit it big with audiences with his film SPLICE, a film that took the 2010 Sundance Film Festival by storm. Its odd, yet fascinating science fiction horror feel was captivating, and the performances from his very talented cast really brought the film together.

We had heard that Natali wanted his next project to be an adaptation of William Gibson’s book, Neuromancer, and now that pre-production has begun, this project will soon become a reality.

The book is known for setting up a lot of the concepts that ultimately became the Internet, and even introduced a common term that we use these days – “Cyberspace.” The film has secured sales and visual work has already began, principal photography is set to begin next year. Natali fans should get excited, as this film seems to be right in his wheelhouse. Continue reading “Vincenzo Natali’s NEUROMANCER begins pre-production”

Chris Pine might star in Jeff Nichols' MUD

After he took up the mantle of Captain Kirk from William Shatner, Chris Pine quickly rocketed to the top of the emerging male lead actors list. He brought a new life to the character that Shatner had previously made famous, while making it is own and not being restrained by Shatner’s legacy. Then he snagged the role of the famous Jack Ryan character from Tom Clancy’s hit books, and now he will lead both franchises.

Now there just might be another film coming down the pipeline for Pine, Jeff Nichols’ MUD. Pine would star in the film as Mud, a fugitive who gets help from two boys in an attempt to escape. The film is said to be in the vein of STAND BY ME. Continue reading “Chris Pine might star in Jeff Nichols' MUD”

"24" film is still on its way; script still in the works

A 24 feature film has been in the works for a while now, with nothing real coming out of constant production rumors as of yet. The hit show starring king of all-around bad-assery, Jack Bauer, came to its end after its eighth season last summer. Needless to say, the 24 movie is a slow-gestating project that fans can’t help but be riled up over.

Today’s update on the project comes from a Fox TV executive who has his pulse on the status of production. Fox Entertainment Chairman Peter Rice had this to say about the project:

“I don’t work at the movie company, but my intelligence around the lot is everybody would very much like to make a 24 movie ,and I believe that they’re working on the script. When they say ‘We don’t have a script,’ they don’t have a completed script that they’re about to go shoot. There’s a great desire to see Jack Bauer on the big screen.” Continue reading “"24" film is still on its way; script still in the works”

Tim Burton no longer on MALEFICENT

Live action adaptations of classic animated tales (as specific as that sounds) is becoming somewhat of a common occurrence. Fans have rushed to the theaters to see them, as Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND has proven, when it grossed over a billion dollars in the box office. Regardless of the critical approval, something about these films are filling the seats.

Disney’s next effort, MALEFICENT, once had Tim Burton attached to the project, but it looks like that is a thing of the past. The film is to focus on the titular evil fairy godmother whose casts the first spell on Sleeping Beauty.

Word is that David Yates, who is most well known for his phenomenal work directing the last half of the HARRY POTTER films, is on Disney’s radar is a possible replacement. It’s hard to imagine any other director tackling this film the way Burton can, but someone like Yates certainly has the skill to do it. Maybe Yates’ talent set could even help him surpass what Burton could have done. Continue reading “Tim Burton no longer on MALEFICENT”
