Still for SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD

SCOTT PILGRIM still

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD is a movie that has so much going for it. From an incredible cast, to an interesting story, and the incredible Edgar Wright directing. This is one of the first looks we have had at the film and, judging by the still, it seems that they got the look down just right.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD is based off the comic series by Bryan Lee O’Malley, and is the story of Scott Pilgrim, the bassist for “Sex Bob-omb.” Upon meeting the girl of his dreams, he must face her ex-boyfriends and defeat them before she will be his.

The film went into post-production a while back, which means we probably aren’t too far from away from a teaser and trailer. With the successes that Edgar Wright’s past films have been, I’m sure he has been given everything he needs to make this movie really great. SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD currently does not have an official release date, and is tentatively set for 2010.

Another new IRON MAN 2 viral ad

IRON MAN 2 cut

Yesterday, I posted about the new IRON MAN 2 viral ad campaign. Today, another one has gone online, and is strikingly familiar to yesterday’s. I’m really hoping that this is going to be a daily thing for awhile. Once again, it is a newspaper clipping that is very reminiscent of the background of the Whiplash character poster. When I talked about yesterday’s clue, I couldn’t figure out any sort of significance in the picture. Today, I noticed something interesting.

I SAW YOU picked up by Dreamworks

I SAW YOU

I think everyone has that missed connection that they will never forget (I saw you at the mall, buying a pair of fake sunglasses…) no matter how hard we try. The Missed Connection ads in Craigslist can be a thing of wonder, both giving you a look into the ridiculous, hilarious, and real lives of people who use the Internet.

Now thanks to Dreamworks, we’ll see this in film form with I SAW YOU, which is based off a collection of personals collected by Julia Wertz. The film is going to be four love stories that intersect based around the personals. Sounds very HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU to me. Dreamworks picked up the pitch for a supposed mid six-figure deal. The film will be directed by George Tillman Jr.

This movie could be pretty interesting, depending on how it is handled and who they cast in the lead roles. Hopefully they keep it funny and not too dramatic, because I can imagine some funny scenes involving writing the personals. I’m looking forward to getting a cast announcement soon, so we can decide if we are still interested.

New IRON MAN 2 viral is in print

IRON MAN 2 cut

A lot of details are starting to come out about IRON MAN 2 in preparation for the film’s May 7th release date. The marketing team has been releasing a lot of posters lately; first they released one revealing War Machine, and then they released one focused on Whiplash. Now, it looks like the viral campaign for the film is in full force. It looks to me like they are trying to capitalize on Whiplash’s obsession with Stark, because the clipping above looks a lot like the backdrop of the Whiplash poster.

A COUPLE OF DICKS changed to COP OUT?

A COUPLE OF DICKS

There has been some buzz in the past week about the title of Kevin Smith’s newest film. Originally, the film was titled A COUPLE OF DICKS, then it was changed to A COUPLE OF COPS, and after much fan outcry it was once again changed back to A COUPLE OF DICKS. After TV stations refused to run ads that say “DICKS” until after 9 PM, Smith knew it had to be changed. But, it looks like the new title might have been figured out!

SEASON OF THE WITCH gets a new poster

SEASON OF THE WITCH cut

Lionsgate is gearing up for the March 19 release of SEASON OF THE WITCH by putting out a new poster. So far, we’ve a seen a teaser and a trailer, just enough to pique interest in the horror film. The film was directed by Dominic Sena, who also directed GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS, SWORDFISH (so awesome!), and WHITEOUT which came out earlier this year. Unfortunately for Sena, WHITEOUT went through critical hell and was almost universally disliked. Maybe he can redeem himself with this one.

Check out the rest of the poster after the jump! Continue reading “SEASON OF THE WITCH gets a new poster”

Danny McBride founds production company, Rough House

Danny McBride

Just a couple years ago, Danny McBride was practically unknown. Then a little film by first time director Jody Hill came out, titled FOOT FIST WAY. The film got the attention of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, who were attached as producers. After that, McBride had no trouble getting other roles, and is now one of the most recognizable faces in comedy movies.

McBride, along with FOOT FIST WAY director Jody Hill, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS director David Gordon Green, and Warner Bros. exec Matt Reilly have founded a new high-concept comedy powerhouse named Rough House. Mandate Pictures acquired a two year deal with Rough House, could this be a match made in heaven? Continue reading “Danny McBride founds production company, Rough House”

James Cameron is producing FANTASTIC VOYAGE 3-D

Fantastic Voyage

I know what you’re thinking, and no it isn’t a feature version of the Coolio song (oh, how I miss you, 1994). Although Hollywood’s remake fever is usually annoying, some projects reek of promise. As of now, that seems to be the case for this project.

James Cameron spoke with MTV about his next project he is developing at Fox, a remake of the 1966 classic, FANTASTIC VOYAGE. Cameron will not be directing this movie though, however, he will be the producer. The original was about a team of doctors who are shrunk and sent inside the president’s body after an assassination attempt. They run into many obstacles on their submarine journey to his brain to remove a blood clot, which will save his life.

Being that Cameron is producing the film, it has a very good chance at being awesome. I can’t wait to see this story with the special effects that we have today. After seeing how amazing AVATAR looks in 3-D, The 3-D for this film seems more promising. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this project in coming months.

Will FALLEN make angels the new vampires?

Fallen Title

After the immeasurable success that TWILIGHT has become, it makes sense that all the studios would want to bank on that success. While TV shows like “True Blood” and “Vampire Diaries” have been extremely successful, CIRQUE DU FREAK: THE VAMPIRE’S ASSISTANT didn’t catch on when it was released a couple of months ago. Now Disney wants their shot.

Disney optioned the rights to FALLEN, which is based off the first novel by Lauren Kate in her four book series, about a young girl who is torn between the love of two fallen angels who battle for her. Yeah, it does sound a lot like TWILIGHT with angels. I think Disney might be looking ahead with this one. With LEGION coming out next month, there could be a renewed interest in fallen angel movies.

This could be a good movie, most likely it will be a TWILIGHT clone though. I’m curious, though – who would win in an all-out battle royale between fallen angels and vampires? Let me know in the comments below!

TAKEN scribe sells VENGEANCE

Robert Mark Kamen

Every now and then, an action film comes out and surprises audiences with its quality. More often than not, action movies are fun to watch but are lacking a genuinely good plot. That was certainly not the case for TAKEN, which came out last year. In fact, I haven’t talked to a single person that didn’t agree that TAKEN kicked ass, and apparently CBS Films agrees.

Robert Mark Kamen, who co-wrote TAKEN with Luc Besson, sold CBS Films on a pitch for a “contemporary revenge love story,” titled VENGEANCE. He goes on to compare the film to THE GODFATHER and states, “It’s about family loyalty and how much someone owes their family and the past. It’s not set in the gangster milieu but just outside it.” Continue reading “TAKEN scribe sells VENGEANCE”
