A Troma-tic thing has happened to THE TOXIC AVENGER remake

I have a feeling that many Gordon and the Whale readers are familiar with Troma’s cult classic, THE TOXIC AVENGER (and its three sequels). For those who don’t know, it is a series of very low budget, gory, ridiculous, and cheesy films, whose main goal is to shock you. The films follow a young nerd named Melvin who was morphed into the mop-wielding Toxic Avenger after jumping into a vat of toxic waste.

It isn’t all that surprising to hear that a remake is in the works, but the surprising part is that it will a PG-13 film comparable to THE MASK. Continue reading “A Troma-tic thing has happened to THE TOXIC AVENGER remake”

Ruben Fleischer will deliver pizzas in 30 MINUTES OR LESS

Because ZOMBIELAND has little bit of everything in it, it’s hard to find someone who hated ZOMBIELAND. The comedic, action-packed, horror film started off as a little film, but ultimately went on to be box office and critical success. Since then, many have been anxiously waiting to see what the director Ruben Fleischer would do next. First he was rumored to be involved in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4, then he was said to be directing a buddy cop film. Now his next project is known, and it is even more exciting. A list of shame: everybody’s got one…and nobody likes to admit it.  This embarrassing list consists of all the movies that you should have seen and are ashamed for not having seen them yet. Lucasfilm behind animated STAR WARS sitcom

In the past couple years both Robot Chicken and Family Guy have produced full-length episodes spoofing the STAR WARS franchise. The most amazing part about them was complete backing and permission to use the STAR WARS music by Lucasfilm. Now in an even more surprising turn, Lucasfilm now wants to take the plunge and make their own comedic STAR WARS animated series. Continue reading “Lucasfilm behind animated STAR WARS sitcom”

Anna Friel cast in DARK FIELDS

We’ve been following DARK FIELDS pretty closely, largely due to some very interesting casting choices. The first casting choice was Bradley Cooper, who is taking a break from his typical comedy fare (or action, if you count A-TEAM) for this dark drama. Then we learned that Robert (Frickin’) De Niro would be the next cast addition, playing the villain of Cooper.

Finally, we have the next step of the equation, Anna Friel, who previously stole our minds and hearts on Pushing Daisies. Continue reading “Anna Friel cast in DARK FIELDS”

Doug Liman to helm THE THREE MUSKETEERS

A couple of months back, I reported on a new version of THE THREE MUSKETEERS being produced, and that it was being written by Peter Straughan (THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS). Aside from the fact that it was being made and that Straughan was penning it, we knew nothing else about the project. But according to The Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision blog, it looks like Doug Liman might be the man to realize the book to screen. Continue reading “Doug Liman to helm THE THREE MUSKETEERS”

Kenneth Branagh lets us in on THOR details

THOR is next year’s big Marvel summer movie, and I know it has one of the biggest curiosity factors of any comic book film ever. Almost nothing is known about the actual production of the film, however; we just know the cast and a couple of plot details. Luckily, director Kenneth Branagh has opened up about the film to the LA Times.

You can see what he had to say after the jump! Continue reading “Kenneth Branagh lets us in on THOR details”

First images from RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE

I remember anxiously awaiting the original RESIDENT EVIL film back in 2002, being that I was obsessed with the game series. Despite the fact that the first film had almost nothing to do with the game series, it was still a very enjoyable film. Even though the subsequent two sequels do involve the games more, they haven’t been recieved as warmly as the original. Now director Paul W. S. Anderson is taking another stab at the series, and we’ve got the first images. Continue reading “First images from RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE”

Joss Whedon on short list to direct THE AVENGERS?

I know, I know. What a day for news like this to come out, it’s an awful shame. Finding articles to write about today is really difficult with all the fake stories out there and it wouldn’t be surprising for THE AVENGERS to be the target of April Fool’s jokes. But IESB is claiming that Joss Whedon is on the short list to direct Marvel’s THE AVENGERS, and assuring that this news is not a joke. Stephenie Meyer's THE HOST to film early 2011

After the TWILIGHT film series blew up, it was pretty much assumed that Stephenie Meyer’s other novel, The Host, would be adapted to film. This book is a science-fiction romance intended for adult audiences. People will soon be able to pass judgment on this film adaptation, because it is on its way to production quicker than most TWILIGHT fans are coming of age.
