DALLAS IFF 2010 Video Interview: Co-Writer/Director Will Canon and Co-Writer Doug Simon (BROTHERHOOD)

Brotherhood Interview One

BROTHERHOOD is the first feature by co-writer/director Will Canon and co-writer Doug Simon. It’s the story of some fraternity brothers who, after an unfortunate accident during their final initiation, end up dealing with a shot brother. Instead of reporting it, taking the heat, and possibly losing their charter, they try to hide it at all costs. Who wants to get in trouble, right?

As I discussed in the SXSW episode of our Podcast, BROTHERHOOD was my favorite film out of the festival. Many SXSWers agreed, as the film won the Audience Award (Narrative). The film also screened at Dallas International Film Festival and won the Audience Award (Narrative) there, so we thought that would be the perfect opportunity to talk to the gents about the film. Check the interview after the break. Continue reading “DALLAS IFF 2010 Video Interview: Co-Writer/Director Will Canon and Co-Writer Doug Simon (BROTHERHOOD)”

Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro to reteam for THE IRISHMAN?

It’s been fifteen years since CASINO was released, and we haven’t had a team-up of Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro since then. Although there have been several almosts, including Scorsese’s THE DEPARTED where Jack Nicholson’s role was originally intended for De Niro, it just hasn’t happened. Now it seems that they will finally team again, in a project that sounds perfect for the duo. Continue reading “Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro to reteam for THE IRISHMAN?”

MIGHTY MOUSE to save the day on the big screen

Many people have had some…not too kind thoughts on the recent trend of bringing back older animated properties and giving them the big screen treatment. It all started with ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS, a film that went on to be a major financial success, much to the chagrin of moviegoers everywhere. Now we have another forgotten property that will hit the big screen, and he’s a little squeak that packs a punch. Continue reading “MIGHTY MOUSE to save the day on the big screen”

Rachel Weisz to be Darren Aronofsky's Jackie Kennedy?

THE FOUNTAIN is a film known for being the topic of much debate by cinema fans. The lovers of the film and the not-so lovers will argue the merits of the film endlessly (trust me, I’ve been there). Although the arguments exist, there is very little contention about the performances in the film, especially that of Rachel Weisz. Now it looks like THE FOUNTAIN writer/director Darren Aronofsky want’s to team back up with Weisz, and have her play one of the most iconic First Lady’s ever, Jackie Kennedy. Continue reading “Rachel Weisz to be Darren Aronofsky's Jackie Kennedy?”

"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane helming R-rated comedy called TED

Seth Macfarlane

Seth MacFarlane is a man who has success in whatever he does. His three animated series (Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show) has lead to fantastic ratings for the Fox network on Sunday nights; but despite all of this, his big directorial debut will be made with Universal instead of Fox, because of its hard R rating. Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man to be made into cartoon

When the reboot of the SPIDER-MAN film franchise was first announced, many fans were extremely worried that Sony would mess it up. But, there was also another type of fan who reacted positively to this news– one that was excited about Spidey’s return to high school because it sounded a lot like one of Marvel’s flagship comic series, Ultimate Spider-Man.

Ultimate Spider-Man is a modernized reboot that was launched in 2000 as a way to connect the character with a younger fan base. It was a big risk that ended up being a huge success for Marvel and has over 130 issues, a video game adaptation, and now a cartoon series. DIFF 2010 Video Interview: Writer/Director Ryan Piers Williams and Actor Wilmer Valderrama (THE DRY LAND)

Ryan Piers Williams and Wilmer Valderrama

THE DRY LAND is the first feature written and directed by native Texan Ryan Piers Williams. The film is the story of a soldier (Ryan O’Nan) returning to his wife (America Ferrera) and their home in El Paso, Texas. After a traumatic tour of duty, he is dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and having a hard time coping. A fellow Veteran, (Wilmer Valderrama) becomes an important part of the healing process and helps him through it, as they cope in very different ways.

The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and is now one of the big films playing at the Dallas International Film Festival. Yesterday I sat down with Williams and Valderrama and we talked DRY LAND and topics surrounding the film. It’s very clear in the answer to my questions that they’re both very proud and passionate about this project (as they should be).

Check out the interview after the break. Continue reading “DIFF 2010 Video Interview: Writer/Director Ryan Piers Williams and Actor Wilmer Valderrama (THE DRY LAND)”

Alice Eve top choice for CAPTAIN AMERICA female lead

Now that Cap has been cast, the role of Peggy Carter in FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA is getting all the attention. The other day, the big news was that Emily Blunt was offered the role but declined. Although Blunt doesn’t want it, there are plenty of young actresses out there that do. Two of them are currently screen-testing for a second time, which means we’ll probably have our leading lady soon enough. Continue reading “Alice Eve top choice for CAPTAIN AMERICA female lead”

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT movie off again?

The ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT film is, for many people, one of the most desired and anticipated films in the past couple of years. Usually we only hear about it every couple of months, and almost every time the update contradicts the one that preceded it. Last thing we heard was that the film would be shooting at the end of the year, but now we’re hearing that it may not happen at all.

The word came from David Cross (who plays Tobias on the show), you can see what he said after the jump! Continue reading “ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT movie off again?”

Production for Bryan Singer's JACK THE GIANT KILLER to start in July

Most would agree that Bryan Singer’s tenure on the X-MEN franchise was a resounding hit, and conversely, his take on the SUPERMAN franchise is seen as a miss. This made it much more disheartening when he decided to only produce X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and direct JACK THE GIANT KILLER. Regardless, the latter sounds like an interesting project and is set to film this July. Continue reading “Production for Bryan Singer's JACK THE GIANT KILLER to start in July”
