HBO grabs rights to Cameron Crowe's documentary THE UNION

Cameron Crowe

It’s no surprise that one of the biggest influences on Cameron Crowe’s career is most definitely music. ALMOST FAMOUS especially exemplifies his love for (and past with) music, and in all of his films, music is a driving force. Needless to say, if it is a Crowe movie, I expect to hear some great music.

Now we will soon get his next more musically-driven project, as HBO is planning on bringing a work of Crowe’s, a documentary called THE UNION, to their channel. THE UNION follows legendary singer/songwriter Elton John as he makes a collaborative album with one of his idols, Leon Russell. Crowe follows the album throughout its entire production, including the never-before-examined recording process of Elton John. Crowe began filming in 2009. New SUPER 8 clip and image hit the net

SUPER 8 is easily one of the most anticipated films of the year for just about everyone. Not only is it produced by Steven Spielberg, but it is being directed by J.J. Abrams, arguably one of the best filmmakers out there right now. Although SUPER 8 has been under wraps for a good while now, more is becoming known about it due to its impending release. That being said, you need to watch the new clip (along with that new image up top) they’ve released to build up anticipation.

In the words of the kid in the clip, “Oh, my God.” Continue reading “New SUPER 8 clip and image hit the net”

Next Bond film gets release dates

Daniel Craig

The 23rd James Bond film has not had an easy time making it to the screen, after struggling to come to fruition due to MGM’s financial woes. The project is back on however, and luckily for us fans, the project did not lose Sam Mendes as the director. Other than Daniel Craig’s return as Bond and Mendes being set to direct, little is known about the upcoming film. We can now add release dates to the small list of things we do know about the next Bond.

The film, which is at this moment still untitled, will actually carry not one, but two, release dates. The UK and Ireland will get the film two weeks before we get it over in the States. Europe will see its release on October 26, 2012 and the U.S. and the rest of the world will have to wait until November 9, 2012. This two-week wait will be excruciating for Bond fans, as we are sure to hear a lot about the film in that time. Continue reading “Next Bond film gets release dates”

GATW Podcast Ep. 48: Hang Overrated

Some movies come out and are an instant hit with audiences, nothing proves this more than the 2009 smash hit comedy THE HANGOVER. Somehow, for some inexplicable reason, audiences rushed to theaters to see this R-rated comedy and the general consensus was extremely positive. The film went on to break many records that had been set before it. It came as no surprise to anyone when a sequel was announced. THE HANGOVER PART II is now out, and we throw down on whether it is just as good, better, or worse than the original.

You can check out the episode after the break! Continue reading “GATW Podcast Ep. 48: Hang Overrated”

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES getting a rewrite by Marti Noxon

Seth Grahame-Smith is really booming in the movie industry right now with two of his novels currently being adapted to film. The first is ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, for which he also wrote the screenplay, followed by PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, which is set to be directed by Craig Gillespie. Needless to say, big things might be in store for Grahame-Smith in the future.

With the addition of Gillespie to PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES (after a number of directorial changes and rumors), a new writer has also come aboard to rewrite the script that David O. Russell first penned.

The new writer for the film will be Marti Noxon, who most recently wrote Gillespie’s last film, the FRIGHT NIGHT remake that is set to be released on August 19. The trailer for FRIGHT NIGHT looks really great, so it makes sense that Gillespie would want to bring on a writer that could more aptly make the script fit his vision and style a little more. "This American Life" story to be turned into film

This American Life has been a major staple of public radio for over fifteen years now, showing the more amazing side of peoples’ lives. The show has given us hundreds of memorable stories, and endlessly entertains its audience with every new episode. The show is now more famous as a podcast than a radio show, with every episode being available on their website.

Now one of these stories is being adapted to a film by Disney called THE GIRLFRIEND EQUATION.

This won’t mark the first time a TAL story has been adapted for the big screen. The 2006 children’s film UNACCOMPANIED MINORS was based off an episode, and the real story of Steven Soderbergh’s THE INFORMANT! was chronicled in an episode. This new film will follow an MIT student who tries to impress the girl of his dreams with complex math. Host of the show Ira Glass is on board as executive producer. A "key villain" role for Matthew Modine in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES?

It was announced just over a week ago that Matthew Modine, who most famously played Private Joker in Stanley Kubrick’s FULL METAL JACKET, would be taking up an unnamed role in Christopher Nolan’s next Batman film THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. It was originally believed that he would take up one of the smaller background roles that Nolan’s series has been known for, but now we are getting reports otherwise.

You can check out who Modine might be playing after the break! Continue reading “A "key villain" role for Matthew Modine in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES?”

GATW Podcast Ep. 47: For The Ladies

Oftentimes romantic comedies get clumped into a category called “chick flicks”, since it is quite common that some men might not be into them. That isn’t the case over here at the GATW Podcast. We love these movies just as much as anyone, and that’s why it was only right that we honor some of our favorites, since they transcend these barriers for us. We feel no shame, and you get to hear us display our more sentimental sides.

STAR WARS television series update from George Lucas

It goes without saying that the STAR WARS series is one of the biggest franchises in existence. The films changed the way that special effects work, and told one of the grandest stories in film. Not only that, but they are generally universally loved and generations of fans have obsessed over them for years.

There has been talk of a live-action series for years, and in 2009 creator George Lucas admitted that the series would take place in between the third and fourth film. Now we have an update from Lucas himself. Apparently, a lot more progress has been made than we ever expected, unfortunately it doesn’t seem like we are any closer to the series being released. The issue seems to be purely money-related. Continue reading “STAR WARS television series update from George Lucas”

Jeff Bridges cast in R.I.P.D.

Jeff Bridges is an actor who can take up almost any role that is offered up to him, and often goes out of his comfort zone to do something new and different. He has the ability to act in a comedy film like THE BIG LEBOWSKI, a dramatic film like CRAZY HEART, and has even been in comic book fare with IRON MAN.

Now, Bridges is set to star in another comic book film – the big screen adaptation of R.I.P.D.

R.I.P.D. is the Rest In Peace Department, based off the Dark Horse comic of the same name. It will star Ryan Reynolds as a recently murdered police officer who joins the department to find his own killer. Bridges will be playing the role of Bo, a long-standing member of the force. The film was written by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, and will be directed by Robert Schwentke. Continue reading “Jeff Bridges cast in R.I.P.D.”
