Blu-ray Review: WHITEOUT

Blu-ray Rating: 3/10

If you want to read an actual review of the film, you can read James’ review here. This review will only cover the Blu-ray and its special features.

I don’t know what it is about snow that makes it look so pretty in HD, but it does. Because of this WHITEOUT is gorgeous, and is the perfect setting for a Blu-ray. But unfortunately that is just about the only exciting thing about this disc. Oh, there is a digital copy, that is kind of cool, I guess. There are a couple special features and they aren’t bad at all, I actually somewhat enjoyed them, but there are so few features that it is immensely disappointing. Blu-ray Review: SMOKIN' ACES 2: ASSASSINS BALL

Film Rating: 5/10
Bluray Rating: 8/10

Director: P.J. Pesce
Writers: Olatunde Osunsanmi, Olumide Odebunmi, Tom Abrams, P.J. Pesce, Joe Carnahan (story & characters)
Cast: Tom Berenger, Tommy Flanagan, Autumn Reeser, Vinnie Jones
Studio: Universal

SMOKIN’ ACES was one of the weirdest, coolest movies to come out in the past couple of years. I honestly never expected a prequel (or sequel), but now we have another crazy assassin-fueled story. But does this prequel film hold up to the original, or are they making a double dip? Continue reading “Blu-ray Review: SMOKIN' ACES 2: ASSASSINS BALL”

Blu-ray Review: SMOKIN' ACES

Bluray Rating: 8/10

Since this is an older film and most people probably already have their opinions on it, I will not be reviewing the actual film itself and instead review the Blu-ray set as a whole.

I went crazy for SMOKIN’ ACES when it first came out. I thought it was fun, insanely clever, and really bad-ass. The avant-garde visual style that they used was incredible and put Joe Carnahan on my directors to watch list. I liked it so much, in fact, that I bought the HD-DVD version (R.I.P.) when it came out. At the time of the initial home video release, Universal was backing HD-DVD exclusively, so it wasn’t until now that we get a Blu-ray version. Continue reading “Blu-ray Review: SMOKIN' ACES”

Blu-ray Review: THE FINAL DESTINATION

Blu-ray Rating: 7/10

This review will only cover the Blu-ray features and not the actual film. If you want to read James’ review of the film, you can do so HERE.

In some ways, it is hard to judge some of the features of this Blu-ray release. For example, if you saw this film in theaters most likely you saw it in 3D. Well, that is no different for the Blu-ray release, it contains both the 2D version and the 3D version. Unfortunately for the 3D version, it requires the cheap paper glasses with the red and cyan lenses. Continue reading “Blu-ray Review: THE FINAL DESTINATION”

DVD Review: FACING ALI

Facing Ali

Film rating: 7/10
DVD rating: 3/10

Director: Pete McCormack
Studio: Lionsgate

FACING ALI is a documentary that doesn’t take the usual approach to telling Muhammad Ali’s story. In fact, very little of the film is actually about his personal life. This film focuses mainly on his most historic fights, and the boxers who faced him. It features some of the biggest names in boxing at the time, such as George Chuvalo, Joe Fraizer, and George Foreman (yes, the grill guy). Continue reading “DVD Review: FACING ALI”
