Sequel to THE MUPPETS to be a caper film

Writing for the new MUPPETS movie is in full swing, with co-writer of the first film Nicholas Stoller and the director James Bobin at the lead. This comes off the heels of finding out that Jason Segel, who co-wrote the first film with Stoller would not be scripting its sequel.

We are starting to get an idea of what the sequel will be like, and now know that the film will be a caper film.

Here’s what Stoller  had to say about the film:

“Yeah, I think it’s similar to the first one in that the first one certainly had dramatic connections to the first Muppet movie, but it was a whole new thing, hopefully. This is the same thing. We love The Great Muppet Caper and we love Muppets Take Manhattan and whatnot. So this has some elements of that, but it’s different because it’s in the tone of what James and I like to do.”

I think it is a really interesting idea to do a caper film. Like he said, the last film had a lot of dramatic connections to the first Muppet film, so why can’t the sequel do the same thing? With Stoller and Bobin’s style, I think it could be a pretty interesting movie.

Stoller also mentions the possibility of a Jason Segel cameo, which would give conclusion to his character’s storyline, so hopefully they can make that happen. Stoller went on to say that Disney is looking to have a Summer 2013 release, but he doesn’t think that is a realistic possibility. Summer 2013, does seem a little too soon, but if they pushed it back to the end of the year it could be more polished.
