Hollywood has been trying to turn popular video game franchise Bioshock into a movie since the first game was released. The story is deep, engaging, full of vivid imagery, and ripe for a film adaptation. But the film has had a s shaky ride toward becoming a film franchise.
Now, the man who had been hired to direct, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, is no longer on board.
Apparently, Fresnadillo was having trouble acquiring the type of budget he felt the film needed. It also sounds like the film studio and video game studio are still trying to figure out the budget, but also the rating of the film. A BIOSHOCK film really should be rated R, but it makes sense why a studio might want to steer it toward a PG-13 rating. Video game adaptations aren’t really known for becoming big hits, aside from a few exceptions.
I really hope the film adaptation works out at some point. If there is any video game that really could make a great film, BIOSHOCK might be it. Hopefully, the studios can get their ducks in a row and make it happen.
