AMAZING SPIDER-MAN to have hints toward future villains

Marc Webb’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is just around the corner at this point, and anticipation is at an all-time high. When the film was first announced, everyone was a little peeved about there being a reboot of the franchise so soon after the original came out. The original film was released only ten years ago, and spawned two sequels. Once the first full trailer came out, everyone shut their mouths and got pumped.

As we can only assume, this new film will be the start of a new franchise if the film proves worthy of a sequel. On that note, we have word directly from Marc Webb that this first film hints at future villains in the series.

Here’s what Webb had to say about it:

“The movie is conceived first and foremost to work as its own entity but there are certain things like… the story of his parents that emotionally and narratively are the long shadow that’s cast over his life. Certainly there are hints to deeper stories but, you know, we’ve got to finish this before we can get to that so it was important that it function on its own.”

His point makes sense, they can really focus on the film itself, and only need to lay subtle hints toward the future of the series. For example, Oscorp has a presence in the film that could lead to the Green Goblin. Also, being that the female lead is Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane, it can only lead one to believe they could be working toward the death of Gwen Stacy storyline from the comics.

Another that comes to mind is Venom. In the new film, Peter’s parents have a much bigger part to the story. It’s no secret that the new film took some influence from the Ultimate Spider-Man comic series, and in that book, Peter’s Dad helped create the symbiote to cure cancer.

All of that is pure speculation however, we can only wait to see what hints are really there. You can check out the full interview with Webb below.
