Michael Bay and Platinum dunes are hard at work turning our favorite turtle heroes into the movie franchise they deserve to be once again. If there was anyone to do it well, I could definitely see it being Bay and company, as they have proven that they know how to do something creative with franchises that could seemingly not work out.
But now we are getting word from Mr. Bay himself, that our favorite sewer-dwelling New Yorkers, might not be from the city after all.
According to Bay, while speaking about the film, he mentions that they are aliens. It isn’t a misquote or anything, he actually said that. Here is a direct quote:
“These turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny, and completely lovable.”
Now, he might have misspoke, or so we can only hope. Maybe he meant that the ooze that made them anthropomorphic was from aliens, or something like that. It seems like a pretty drastic change from the source material, one that people truthfully don’t want.
I’m not saying that it couldn’t be good, but these characters are really loved for who and what they are, and most fans aren’t interested in changing that. They want to see Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo as they were, but given the film treatment they deserve.
We’ll see what comes from this later in the production.
