First Look: Kili and Fili from Peter Jackson's THE HOBBIT

THE HOBBIT is on its way, with Peter Jackson behind the camera again, bringing J.R.R. Tolkien’s first published novel to life. As production on the film continues on, there has been a steady flow of teases being released, showing off characters and releasing a production diaries. Although I’ve been avoiding the diaries, as I’d like to watch them after the film is released, that won’t stop me from checking out character photos.

Today we get a character photo that shows off Kili and Fili, two young dwarves who join Bilbo on his journey to defeat Smaug. Check it out after the break.

Fili and Kili are being portrayed by Dean O’Gorman and Aidan Turner respectively, and both look really great in the roles. Casting has never been a problem for Jackson’s Tolkien adaptations, and this seems to be no exception. Neither look like the kind of dwarves we have come to expect from Jackson’s films, but these are young dwarves. I’m sure that later in life they will resemble Gimli more than than they do now.

The attention to detail is what really draws me to Jackson’s adaptations, and it’s quite obvious he is putting just as much detail into THE HOBBIT, if not more. The wait for THE HOBBIT is unlikely to be bearable. However, THE LORD OF THE RINGS just had its extended editions released on Blu-ray, a set that is absolutely sublime. Pick it up, it’ll do the best it can to tide you over until THE HOBBIT hits the big screen.
