JOHN CARTER OF MARS loses MARS

Of all the already exciting aspects we had for JOHN CARTER OF MARS, the most exciting certainly has to be FINDING NEMO and WALL-E director Andrew Stanton in the directors chair. It will be his first live action feature, and he seems to be going all out on the project. He is an immensely talented filmmaker, and there is no doubt he will bring his best to the film.

However, in a turn that seems to be for marketing purposes, JOHN CARTER OF MARS will now be known as JOHN CARTER.

The word is that the exclusion of MARS in the title might just be because the studio wants to distance itself from the not so hot MARS NEEDS MOMS. It makes sense why they would be worried about that, but it is it a little drastic of a move? It almost seems like the films will be so different, that confusion would be at a minimum already.

On the flip side, this changes nothing about the movie and it is still a live-action sci-fi movie being directed by Pixar’s Andrew Stanton. Regardless of how silly the name change really is, we are likely to forget all that when the film actually comes out. Until then, run back through Stanton’s work at Pixar, he has a pretty strong track record.
