Emma Roberts has blown up in the past couple years, going from being a tween actress to a more respected young actress. She now takes on more roles that show her in such light, with SCREAM 4 as a great example. She was easily one of the best parts about that film, and it shows that she can expand beyond films like NANCY DREW.
Now she will be joining CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER along with Ari Graynor and Chris Messina.
CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER is being co-written by Rashida Jones who will also star. It follows a married couple who tries to maintain their friendship while getting a divorce and living together and trying to see other people. Roberts is on board to play a starlet who hires Celeste (Jones) to revamp her image when her career is slowing down. Messina will be playing a financial analyst who helps Celeste in her funk, while Graynor plays her best friend from college who thinks her living situation is a problem.
I’m really excited to find out more about this project, as I think Jones is a hilarious actress and has what it takes to make this film really hilarious. In a similar vein as BRIDESMAIDS, Jones wanted to make the film in response to the Apatow movement, and wanted to give the ladies a shot. It worked with BRIDESMAIDS, so it seems likely to work here too.
