Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" to get the animation treatment

These days, Batman is one of the most popular superheroes out there. After having a major revival with Christopher Nolan’s BATMAN BEGINS, he quickly rose back to the public eye. After Nolan’s epic sequel, THE DARK KNIGHT, Batman’s popularity was unparalleled. With THE DARK KNIGHT RISES on its way, what other ways can they keep us interested?

DC is planning on releasing an animated feature following the story of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. The Dark Knight Returns follows a middle-aged Bruce Wayne returning to the cape and cowl after accepting retirement to fight some of his biggest enemies. The comic was released back in 1986, and to this day is still considered one of the best Batman stories ever to be told. DC seems to be pulling the big guns on this one, and this has the ability to become one of the best DC animated features.

This isn’t the first time that DC has gone with one of their most popular stories to turn into one of their animated features. Very recently, they made an ALL-STAR SUPERMAN animated feature, the All-Star comic was written by Grant Morrison and is considered one of the better Superman stories in recent years.

I love that they’re going back to the vault a bit. Maybe this means their next one could be Superman: Red Son? Is that asking too much? What classic DC stories would you like to see get the animation treatment?
