It’s pretty easy to get excited for the upcoming epic film endeavor, Stephen King’s THE DARK TOWER, which is being directed by Ron Howard and will Star Javier Bardem. It is set to be a trilogy of films, with a TV series bridging the gap between the first and second film. Akiva Goldsman was all set to write the TV series, but now we are finding out he is not alone.
Mark Verheiden, who will also be executive producing the series, will help Goldsman write the show.
Verheiden has a pretty solid relationship with TV, having been a supervising producer on NBC’S Heroes and having executive produced and written for Battlestar Galactica. The series will be directed by Ron Howard, to keep the series very uniform with the movies. This is a very ambitious and impressive project, and THE DARK TOWER has been asking for the film treatment for a long time.
As excited as I am for all of this, I can’t help but be a little skeptical. How are they going to make the TV series canon with the films, yet not alienate the audiences who didn’t see the first film? I guess they could always take the series in a different, yet relevant direction. Either way, it’s exciting to see the project come to fruition and it is sure to be a hotly anticipated film among its release.
