Robert De Niro is arguably one of the greatest actors of all time, appearing in many films that have gone on to receive critical acclaim. His career is just as hot as ever, even with films that fan the flame a bit like LITTLE FOCKERS. De Niro has the opportunity to be in the spotlight until he doesn’t want to be anymore, so he can do pretty much any project he wants.
Now he is looking to team back up with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in his upcoming film, FREELANCERS.
The story follows Jackson’s character as he joins the NYPD following his father’s death. He finds himself ultimately teamed up with his dad’s ex-partner (De Niro), becoming a member of a special task force. Jessy Terrero will be directing the film, and Forest Whitaker is in talks to join the cast.
After hearing more about the possiblility of De Niro and Scorsese teaming back up for THE IRISHMAN, that film has taken over my imagination and it’s hard to get excited about De Niro in anything else. Sadly, FREELANCERS doesn’t give me that feeling yet. Until we get some more info about the project, or possibly even a trailer, I’ll hold onto my skepticism.
