Upcoming HELLRAISER film isn't quite a remake

As we’ve known for a while, there is an upcoming HELLRAISER film in the works. After having seemingly countless sequels in the series, we need something a little different. That’s why it only makes sense for them to go for a remake of the original, something we’ve been hearing about for awhile now.

Now, according to the writers and director of the upcoming film, Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer, we are hearing it might not be a direct remake of the original film.

This is what they had to say about it:

“To go in and tell the story of [Hellraiser’s characters] Frank and the family wouldn’t be right…What we went in to pitch with at Dimension was to come at it from a different angle, but go into the same world and see things you haven’t been able to see in the other movies. There have been so many films, how can we make this one different?”

Something different is always good for remakes, especially those in the horror genre. When Rob Zombie did his HALLOWEEN remake, he did something fresh, yet true to the original and it worked out very well. This is a much more interesting route to take the film than a direct remake.

Additionally, original reports that the film would be rated PG-13 are officially out the window. Both Lussier and Farmer have worked a clause into their contract saying that the film will be R-rated. Smart move for the movie, as it would be hard to imagine the film otherwise. It’s time to be really excited about this project again, because it seems to be in the right hands.
