For any other Pee-wee fans out there, you’ve probably been wondering what happened to that Judd Apatow produced Pee-wee film that was supposedly in the works. It was a project that seemed to be on the fast track, especially considering the blockbuster potential of most Apatow films. Then, it seemed to disappear.
Lucky for us, the film is still happening, and we are finally getting a real update on the status of the film. Check it out after the break!
One of the big rumors when Judd was first announced as producer was that they were finally making the dark Pee-wee movie that had been tossed around for many years. An exciting prospect, especially because of Apatow’s involvement. Paul Reubens recently said during a satellite interview that “the dark Pee-wee movie won’t be happening until things get a little darker.”
As for the film that is currently being worked on, it is set to be a road movie that is supposed to follow the vibe and feeling of PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE. It’s a surprising way to take the film, as it wouldn’t be hard to make it too similar to BIG ADVENTURE. That is where Apatow comes in, as Reubens claims that Apatow is pushing them to make it different.
It seems to me like the project is on the right track, lets keep our fingers crossed that when the script is finished they actually roll on it. Are you guys excited for a new Pee-wee flick?
