When your brother has blown up on the music scene with his band’s most recent album, including smashing its way onto the Billboard Hot 200 at number one, it probably isn’t a bad idea to have him score your first feature film. That is certainly the case for Zal Batmanglij, brother of Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij.
The film in question is called SOUND OF MY VOICE, and it chronicles what happens when a couple joins a cult in California, particularly following their interactions with the cult’s leader. With a concept as interesting and intriguing as this, I can only wonder what Rostam’s score will sound like, especially since Vampire Weekend is known for their pop nature.
The film will be opening at the Sundance Film Festival this month, but until then the sound of Rostam’s score will remain a mystery. With his band’s popularity, maybe there will be a future soundtrack release.
