The Unchartedseries is easily the mainstay series for the Playstation 3 to myself and many other gamers. The first game came out of nowhere and gave us a fast-paced action platformer built to perfection. Little did we know that two years later, they would give us a sequel that would somehow eclipse the original significantly.
That’s why it wasn’t very surprising when a film adaptation was first announced, it seemed to make so much sense. Since then, the production of the film has been like a roller-coaster ride of retractions and hearsay. Now we are getting news that a lot of the things we had heard about the film that was worrisome, might not have been so true.
A while back, news came out that UNCHARTED director David O. Russell was trying to work a family dynamic into the story, something that is practically non-existent in the game series. Here was his quote:
“This idea really turns me on that there’s a family that’s a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities…[a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice…We’ll have the family dynamic, which we’ve done in a couple of movies now. And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That’s a really cool idea to me.”
To me this doesn’t sound all that bad of an idea, but it just isn’t very UNCHARTED. One of the biggest issues in video game movies is either straying too far from the source material, or staying too close to it. This quote is now being refuted by Justin Richmond, director of the third game Uncharted: Drake’s Deception. Richmond says:
“First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell. He actually called us up and was like, ‘I don’t know what these guys are talking about.'”
Richmond also goes on to say that Mark Wahlberg is not officially attached to the film, so the film might still be lacking their lead. That gives hope to many fan’s out there who really want Nathan Fillion to get the role, like this guy.
