Author of THE LOST SYMBOL to rewrite the film adaptation

Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon series is a major cultural phenomenon in the book world that has been translated into a film series that doesn’t really pack the same punch. Just something about his stories have led them to be some of the best-selling books of all time.

Although the first two films (THE DAVINCI CODE and ANGELS & DEMONS) weren’t really as great as fans of the series were hoping, it looks like the studio might be trying to get it right this time with THE LOST SYMBOL. They have officially brought on Dan Brown to do a rewrite of the film’s script.

This will mark Brown’s first foray into screenwriting, which is actually the worrisome thing about this announcement. He has proven himself as a novelist (even if you don’t like him, he’s doing something right), but has yet to do that as a screenwriter. Of course, maybe he’ll come out and surprise us. Nobody knows the story better than him.

This actually gives me a lot more hope for the next film, as I was sorely disappointed by some of the omissions they made with ANGELS & DEMONS. With the actual author involved, it seems like that would be a less likely occurrence. Either way, it’s good to see that they are trying. Hopefully it will work out for them.
