It seems like it’s been a while since we’ve had a Bond movie, a lot longer than a Bond fanatic like myself can really handle. Unfortunately, with MGM’s financial woes as of late, 007’s future has seemed not so bright. With the news that MGM has worked out THE HOBBIT, it seems they are doing everything they can to get franchise number 2 back on track.
Now it seems they have, MGM has BOND 23 slated for a 2012 release.
Essentially, MGM was able to find a partner to co-fund the film for them for half the rights, with MGM planning to take full control back for the 24th film. This seems like a pretty good way to get the project back on track, because under MGM’s complete control the film was going nowhere fast.
The biggest concern going forward is who will be taking the film on, since the Sam Mendes plans were scratched. Will he still be interested at this point? Certainly Craig will be returning, but the rest I’m sure will be a mystery for a while.
We are sure to hear more about the project in the coming months, and hopefully before long we will have a new Bond film to keep us happy. Until then, you can get your fix from the new Bond video game Blood Stone for the PS3 and Xbox 360, as it pretty much is a Bond film in its own right.
