It was a shock to just about everyone when it was announced that Robert Zemeckis would be helming a Mo-cap remake of The Beatles’ unforgettable film, YELLOW SUBMARINE. It was even more of a shock when the cast was announced, proving that this project really was happening.
Now it is becoming even more of a reality, as the film has set a date for production to begin.
YELLOW SUBMARINE will go behind the camera in April, supposedly with the voice actors also providing the Mo-cap. This will be Zemeckis’ fourth outing into the world of Mo-cap, following THE POLAR EXPRESS, BEOWULF, and A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Supposedly it will be his last for a while, too.
This could be a good note for Zemeckis to end his Mo-cap run on, although it’s still really hard to find a good justification as to why this remake is being made. Ultimately it will depend on if the film turns out well or not, which is certainly up in the air. Good luck, Zemeckis, you’ve got a tough road ahead of you.
