Gore Verbinski considering directing THE LONE RANGER

Ever since THE LONE RANGER remake was announced, starring Johnny Depp as Tonto instead of The Lone Ranger, I’ve had a hard time finding myself excited about the film. There’s nothing really wrong with the project, but there also have not been any other ideas thrown out there that I found exciting.

That changes with this latest piece of news concerning who might be in the director’s chair.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN director Gore Verbinski has been brought onto THE LONE RANGER as a producer, and is apparently considering signing on as director as well. His direction is something I’ve always seen as a saving grace to PIRATES, and might have been what made it something more than just a movie based off a Disney ride (take HAUNTED MANSION, for example).

This news might also be the first sign of the project leaving development hell since it was first announced. At the same time, it will probably still be a very long time till the movie gets made, due to Depp’s incredibly busy schedule. Hope this happens, as the film very well might need it.
