Stanley Tucci is an actor who is usually known for bringing incredible performances to any film he is a part of. Most recently, he was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in THE LOVELY BONES. We’ve known for a while that he was joining CAPTAIN AMERICA, but now we have some more insight to the role thanks to Mr. Tucci himself.
Check out what he had to say after the jump!
“I play Dr. Erskine who’s described as an elderly German scientist. I have to do an accent and be elderly. When they asked me to play him initially I was like ‘Is that like a compliment or is that an insult? I don’t know?”
Playing old is cool Stanley! Just ask those Harry Potter kids (spoilery). You’re only fourty-nine, think of it as an honor!
When asked what his experience on set was like, this was his response:
“I shot with Chris [Evans], and Dominic Cooper, and Tommy Lee Jones, and Hayley Atwell. I love the role. It’s really well written. I’d never done anything like that before. I’ve always wanted to do a German accent. It’s so much fun. It’s really interesting. Very good script, great experience. I was shooting it in London and I go back in a month and a half.”
Tucci seems great for this role specifically, as German accents (along with Irish) are said to be one of the hardest to recreate correctly. A lot of times studios like Marvel will cast a more classically trained actor for a role with an accent. You can’t go wrong with Tucci there.
