Just the other day we got news that Jeremy Renner was set to co-star in the next MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE film, with Tom Cruise still set to lead. This is an exciting prospect for fans of the series, as the build-up of Keri Russell’s character in the third film was really interesting. Now we are getting word that that film will indeed be a sequel to the film series, but it won’t be MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE.

The film’s title will stray away from it’s original, in what is expected to be a BATMAN BEGINS to THE DARK KNIGHT style departure. Paramount is currently trying to figure out what that new title will be.
Additionally, we also now know that in the fourth film, Jeremy Renner and Tom Cruise will share about the same amount of screen-time as dual-leads. In any future installments, they hope to have Renner in the lead and Cruise in a smaller, supporting mentor role.
As good as the third film was, it’ll be nice to see the series take a different direction. Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner together is a combination of talent that could be really huge. The surprising thing is how eager Renner seems to be about doing action films; hopefully he’ll keep his dramatic chops in movies like THE TOWN.
